Default Crossover Search

Looking for a crossover in the $1500-$2000 range
Features:
Rosewood b&s
Top undecided - maybe cedar but spruce ok, too
Ebony fingerboard (deal breaker - must be ebony)
hard case
Not Chinese - tried Cordoba and sent it back immediately
No 'barn door' electronics (another deal breaker). K&K or similar might
be ok but don't want holes in the side of my guitar.
Any suggestions?

What turned you off to the Cordoba?

I just received a Kremona that does not hit all of your requirements, but there may be models that do. Mine is the Sophia with a custom spruce top, Rosette, without electronics. It has a short scale and a 1 7/8" nut width. I also have the Kremona KNA pickup which is very unobtrusive but I have yet to try it out. The Kremona site has great illustrations of the specifications of its various models.

Not sure - it just didn't 'feel' right. I did have a GK Studio (cypress) for several years and pretty much liked it except for the rosewood fingerboard and 'trap door' electronics. I don't think you should have to spend money on a pickup that you neither like nor intend to use but that's just the market, I guess. Custom build is out of budget range so I'll keep looking....

Have you tried the Cervantes crossover? Seems to fit the bill for your requirements, unless you don't want a cutaway.

I feel the same about electronics and again would point out that Kremona was very good with me in terms of customizing. They may be able to make what you want within your price range.

One thing with the Cervantes Crossover 1, it has large sized frets. The Cedar/Palo Escrito has a snappier sound than the Spruce/Rosewood, and both have lattice bracing.

I know you said no Córdoba / Chinese, but if you can find a C10 Crossover in a store to sample, I think you will find it of a higher quality.

I have both the C10 and a GK Studio, and like them both very much. But at their price points, you would expect more out of the C10, and in my opinion, it delivers.

Hope that helps,

I ordered the C10 Crossover and sent it back immediately. That's the one 'that just didn't feel right'. I liked the GK much better but needed ebony and no electronics. Hard combo to find.

I should have thought of this earlier. In getting my custom Kremona guitar I dealt directly with Sean Henry, Kremona's US representative. You might give him your desired specs and see if he comes up with what you'd like; He can be reached at [email protected]

I have no vested interest in Kremona, just a happy customer.

Just curious..
When you say the C10 “just didn’t feel right”, and that you liked the GK much better, can you put your finger on what didn’t feel right?

Reason I ask, the GK is not a crossover but a flamenco. So it has a flatter neck and a 50mm Neck width at the nut. The C10 Crossover is obviously a crossover and has a significantly radiused fingerboard and a 48mm neck width at the nut.

It took me a while before the narrower curved fingerboard felt right with nylon strings. So just wondering if that is the source of the strange feel you experienced or if it was something more on the quality front? Because if it is the neck shape, then most all crossovers will feel the same way.

Just trying to help in your search,
Gary

What about a Taylor NS? I regret selling mine, even though it had a barn door P/U... Could you suffer through their new three holer controls?
