Her version of "Will you still love me tomorrow" is moving.

I loved Love is a Losing Game. So original and yet had that 1940's vibe to it at the same time.

I’d agree with this.
It’s tough to choose a favourite as she came up with so many ‘classics’ in such a short career but Love Is A Losing Game takes me to another place every time I hear it.
She was unbelievable and rare talent taken far far too soon.
Best female vocalist I’ve heard since I first listened to Billie Holiday.

Yep. Huge talent, painfully honest and generous performer, and a tragedy in real time.

Yep. I've never really been into pop but I listened to all of the above back in the 2010s, that whole female brit-pop scene was amazing. I don't always sing falsetto in the shower, but when I do it's often one of the above.

Maybe check out Neko Case and Laura Veirs (or Case/Lang/Veirs) too. Less pop, more alt punk/folk/whatever, but pretty great stuff.

I'm in the same boat, never picked up on her till she was gone.

But once I did notice, yea... "WOW"

truly sad and tragic what happened to her.

Yes, the real deal. I heard a track from her first album, Frank, yesterday that knocked off my chair. I haven't heard that disc yet, but I understand it's mostly a straight-up jazz album from what I've heard. Will dive into it soon.

I wish there was something we could have done to save this amazing woman. A true gift to all of us.

Incredible talent. Too bad she hooked up with the wrong people.

Thanks. I'm familiar with both of these, as well. I lean more towards the alt/punk/folk anyway, but it's all good.

Yeah, she was an amazing talent, and quite easy on the eyes!

You might listening to another talented vocalist, Sara Loera. Not sure where her career is going, but a joy to watch!

Just wanted to bump this up. So very busy, but so in love with this woman's music. For two months I listened to her almost exclusively.

This month marks ten years since her passing. What could she have done with her life and music had she lived?

Larry, I just LOVE that track. To my ear it sounds like this was recorded early in her career, before the trouble began. Her voice sounds so pure, and she just sounds HAPPY, like she's smiling as she sings.

What a talent.

Thanks for your post.

If you get the chance, check out her documentary, "Amy." It's really difficult to watch her talent and abuse collide, but it's important to watch. I'm not sure if it's streaming anywhere, but I own a copy of it.
I totally agree what a monster talent she was and it was criminal how the press and significant people inside her inner circle took advantage of and abused her. When you watch the documentary, you just keep hoping someone will save her from the pond scum that led her into despair even though you know the tragic ending before hand.

Agree 100%. I wish someone could have saved her -- or she could have saved herself.

BTW, the same film maker had previously made an excellent documentary about the life and career of Ayrton Senna, the brilliant Brazilian Formula 1 driver who died on the track at Imola in the early nineties. Compelling and fascinating. I was not much into F1 till I saw that doc, now I love it.

It's hard to believe she's been gone ten years. What a loss.
