Most days I take a walk down the Port Hope Waterfront trail which runs between the A.K. Sculthorpe Marsh to the north and Lake Ontario to the south.
The last couple of weeks the Marsh has had many great blue herons. Last Wednesday I counted 21, but a friend said she counted 24. sometimes there will be an Egret or two as well. These were all taken with my Samsung cell phone.

A great blue who got close enough to be photographed

Some herons and an egret. Unfortunately, my phone won't take things very far away.

A couple of shots of a green heron. I had to get my feet wet to get these photos.

Default Costa Rican Hummingbirds

Some photos from a 2009 visit to Costa Rica. Not sure if any are Gibson hummingbirds...

Oops! Definitely not a hummingbird, but it's why I'm afraid of the dark!

Brother Bob just sent me this one. I've seen lots of ducks on logs and turtles on logs, but together is a first for me.

Nice shot LeDave.

Took this shot of a young Butcher Bird in my yard a few days ago.

Got a new board today! Pretty rare event, and had a beautiful day with my kids in Santa Cruz and at the beach. Met my shaper in person for the first time, surfed a break I'd never surfed before, 'cause it's always wind blown and filled with kite-surfers. You NOR-CAL folks might know the place. Today it was glassy and chest high. Wonderful board. Really, really good day.

Excellent shot Bruce, compared to the coast we don't see them often up here & if we do they're the pied ones not the greys.

They are one of the finest songbirds in this country with their beautiful carolling, a bit like their cousins the Magpie but better.

For as cute as they look that hook on the end of the beak is such a defining characteristic & reminder of the terror they wreak on other bird species, and how they got their name.

Haven't taken a lot recently, but I did sit out on the deck a little while ago with my camera. The chickadees were very obliging.

Yes, their song is truly beautiful.
This one visits me daily and gets a feed of mince, a couple of Willy Wagtails give him a hard time when he turns up.

A super dee duper peaceful day at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum on Long Island's south shore yesterday. Peaceful and uplifting.

I'd love to post pictures at a higher resolution but I don't think that's possible on the site? Anyway, hope you like them.
