Well I'm glad at least it's provided some enjoyment for those following the thread so far. I hope this guitar will appeal to at least one person. My guess is that it will.

Though no buyer has solidified the claim on this one yet.

I really am having fun. My job thankfully usually is. I hope you can vicariously participate in it. As far as a truly AGF member built instrument (say for charity), I think it would be fun, though many details (timing, covering costs, how to vote, etc.) would need some hashing out. I would like to be a part of it, but I know our backlog (and the 4 current AGF member builds we have going now) are saying that it would be a ways off.

Thanks for all the participation. A couple more nuts and bolts together, and I'll have another vote for you.

I thought I would post a couple more pics.

Here's the rim assembly with the fabric side supports:

And then with the top linings - believe me they're under there.

Getting ready to get a back on this thing.

Default Coming soon!

Ryan said, a page or so back, "We're actually building (in fact almost finished) with an all Mango lattice braced guitar ala Chet Akins-style for another AGF'er..."

I am that AGF'er, and I will go through the build in rather short order as soon as Tom's gorgeous guitar and thread are finished! ( and Ryan read minds me how to post pictures on here! )

Thoughts for a Monday:

1.) For a bossless employee what happens on a weekend is- nightmares that you left the bending iron on and now the shop is a pile of cinder.

2.) To anyone that has spent hours of monotony making your own kerfing on a bandsaw AND you still have all your fingers, I salute you.

3.) Mondays are a good day for some planning. Would you like to help me pick out a binding choice? I had thought going into this build that I would use Quartersawn Maple, but we've used Bocote to match Texas Ebony rosettes before. It would look fine...any thoughts?

QS Maple

Bocote

Keep in mind that we will not be using side purfling, so the binding will go directly against the sides and back. (Top purflings will be used)

Thanks for the help. Let's set 5pm central as the end for this vote.

QS Maple, coming to you from 100 miles away so that makes it a 'close vote'

SO - Bocote!

Chris

PS - Do you "have" to do dot inlay? Perhaps "none"???

No I definitely do not have to do the dot inlay. No inlay is much easier. Are you proposing a future vote?

Bocote seems to be winning this battle. So far in this thread, pleas from geography don't appear to be a help. About an hour left.

It's official! Bocote will be the binding of choice on this guitar. It will look great. After I get home and take a shower, I'll post a recap of today's progress.

Ok day's done. I realize now that I didn't take a lot of pictures today. Oh well. Here's the very simplified photo rendering of my day.

First is a shot of gluing on the back linings. This was possible after shaping the sides down to their final depth.

Next is the completed rim assembly and finished back with carved braces. The back is now ready to be fit to the rim assembly. This will happen first thing in the morning.

So tomorrow (after a few cosmetic adjustments) we'll have an attached back and we'll see how far we can make it on the top.

Thanks for your management today. Good managers are easy to work for.

Ok well we'll vote on FB inlay when the time comes. Now, if you want to get deep into this build, help me out. I listen to audiobooks while I build and I'm just about finished with my current book, Now Wait for Last Year by Philip K Dick, if you're interested. I read/listen to all genres, so feel free to offer a suggestion for my next listen. I can't prove that it implants a vibe to the build, but it might. It definitely gives a vibe to the builder. What you got for me?
