how does Emerald x-10 sound acoustically
So...lots of very postive comments about the Emerald X-10 plugged in. Can anyone describe the acoustic sound? Thanks.

Not as good as the X7 acoustically to me a a couple others but still acceptable ...the 6 pickup bridge material makes the difference

I don't have a new version X7, but I find the X10 is a bit louder than my previous version X7 (from the player's perspective - haven't heard someone else play it, yet). A bit lighter on the bass, though. Still, a nice balance on the X10.
Comparing to a couple of my Taylor guitars, the X20 is to the Grand Auditorium, as the X10 is to the Grand Concert. (a hold-over from SAT tests ) Sorta. ----------- On edit: I just played the X7 and the X10, back and forth, with my wife listening... she said, "They both sound really good!" "OK, we're trying to discern the difference." I played some more. I definitely experience the X10 as louder, but with a bit less bass, from the player's perspective. I then said, "It would be nice if you could play." She said, "It would be nice if you could cook." This isn't going the way I thought it would. ;-) She offered to just strum each guitar, open. Yep, from out front, the X10 is louder with a bit less bass than the X7. But, both sound good, in an open strum kinda way. Last edited by Captain Jim; 11-19-2018 at 06:19 PM. I've got an X10 on order with multiple scale lengths (fan frets), that should help the bass situation.

The bass is probably being hurt by the about of electronics and wires inside. Just a tradeoff that has to be made.
My plan was to use a small Amp in situations when I otherwise would have played acoustically, like church small group setting. We'll see how that goes. My x10 should be waiting for me at home when I get back from Japan this weekend. =) |

So you feel the X10 would sound better acoustically with a standard bridge ?

I have a straight acoustic older style(centre sound hole) X10...I think it sounds great. Guess it depends on whether you need electronics or not....I don't, so easy choice for me

I've had both the center and off-set X10--I still have the off-set 10 and find that it acoustically competes very nicely with my RS Parlor.
I've used the pickup for larger venues with the Battery powered Roland AC33 and the battery powered Bose. The 10s sound good acoustically and power up nicely. The new 10s with the new pickups are different animals and Kramster may be the best judge of electric 10s. |

Thank you. I requested the regular acoustic bridge on my X10 order too (EDC 30 Nov.) It's a relief knowing I'm not the only one selecting the single bridge for their X10.
