thanks cuki....but the algebra was more than I needed to eat before noon. And so I'd guess on a plugin chain....this should go first, and maybe just compression afterwards if the result was satisfactory. I've got a new incoming akg p170 and will wait for that to try your system...but thank you. Seems a better way to actually evaluate the end product, rather than a $400 pedal, esp if the end result will be recording, not playing live. New toyz...new ploys. Again thanks for the system, and to Aaron for the video demo.

You clearly don’t need a pedal if it is for recording. Compression indeed must come after.

Sorry for the math.

I acquired a guitar with a Fishman Matrix, so I’m now wanting to see if it’s possible to get a good IR for that as well as the pickup in my PRS, of my recorded dread.

Any specific tips to try and do this (creating IRs for other instruments when the desired tone is not the one with the pickup)? Probably gonna give it a try this weekend so figured I’d ask first in case there’s key info I’m missing.

I was just thinking to record each guitar to a click playing as close to the same thing as possible for a minute or so then run them through the program. Seems it can’t be that simple…

If you’re thinking to get one guitar to sound like another I think you’re wasting your time. To get one guitar to sound like it’s acoustic self is quite an achievement. If you manage that - be happy.

Just tested this morning and was able to get one I like for the PRS and another for the Fishman. Seems to work fine for anyone else who may want to try, using the method mentioned above (record twice against a click, once for the pickup guitar, one for the mic’s acoustic).

i am impressed by the various posts, but what's the difference between making an IR and just use a mix of both channels in your recording. i am working on a guitar with a piezo under the bridge plate and a small internal broadband speaker as microphone. the 2 seperate signal go into the interface or amp and i try to simulate what my ears hear acoustically.

What you suggest is a dual source pickup

It is a very popular option, my favourite actually but when you play loud stages, any microphone will feedback, then IR can come handy when properly tuned.
