My panels don't, just frames.

Ahh... good. I was under the mistaken impression ATS was doing that and it didn't make sense to me why they would.

I’ve seen DIY designs that have something like gardening weed fabric on the back to keep Rockwool particles out of the room. Supposed to be as sonically transparent as the front fabric, but less expensive.

Premium Guilford of Maine fabric tends to be the most, or second most, expensive component — but of course there are several alternatives. But that’s one of the incentives for DIY: you can use pricier materials and still save money over commercial panels plus shipping.

I think any kind of cheap gauze would be fine if one was hanging them on the walls as opposed to putting them on stands. If stationary, I doubt there's any real danger of particles getting scattered about. For stands, I'd be tempted to simply use the fabric I chose for a complete wraparound and a more attractive look.

I know with GIK, Guilford fabric is an upgrade. I wonder who makes their regular fabric. All my GIK traps are done with their regular fabric and it's quite nice and holds up very well. The black traps in my room have been up for well over a decade and the fabric still looks pristine other than perhaps a little dustier than when new.

I want mine to be moveable, so I need some minimum level of strength in the back fabric, but to nearly double the yardage of the expensive stuff seems worth avoiding if possible.

I just ordered the ATS version of the OC 703. Supposed to be the same absorption specs., and cheaper. I've been wanting to add a cloud to my humble garage recording space.

I'm going to wrap them in simple burlap, same as my other panels. It is a garage space, so don't need anything fancy.

Supposed to arrive next Friday. Just in time for a fun weekend project!

One thing to remember is that the Guilford and other premium fabrics are fire-resistant, if that matters to you.

It does to me, so I'm willing to pay for it.

Yes, I expect I’ll pop for the good stuff. I’ll still save big compared to commercially available panels.
