Default When Do Vehicle Inventories Get Back To....

You know...

Where they're "ready to deal" ?

It's still pretty pathetic here in the Heartland. They don't seem "motivated" to sell, and everything is above MSRP.

Market Value, they call it.

I'll never pay over MSRP.

Ain't

Gonna

Doit...

Don't look for improvement in new and used car sales until 2024. It's the economy.

I'm betting it is going to be a couple of years at best. The microchip war seems to be getting fired up and that might just determine when things return to "near normal." Also, thermoplastics are still struggling to even come close to demand.

I'm starting to have some minor regrets about selling my 1991 Jeep Wrangler yesterday. There was nothing smart in that vehicle at all, which is probably a good thing these days.

Good question. One of the big Honda dealers has absolutely no cars in the showroom and dust on the floor. Apparently, they are going to restock the showroom with 2019 and 2020 models - “almost new.”

So I have opted to put a fair amount of money into my 2006 Accord EXL five speed. I swear that whenever I bring it in for service, I receive one or more verbal signs of interest from the mechanics\service writers. Best car ever.

Here in southern FL, you can get the pick of the litter. So many senior citizens do leases, and you can get a pre owned certified vehicle with low mileage for a good price.
It's like cracking the code.

In my experience almost nothing ever goes back to the way it was. Once things change, they are changed forever. Figuring out what the new normal is has always been the part that is the hardest for me. I'm still waiting for bacon to go on sale for $3.99 a pound.

I watched a 2012 John Deere 3320 cab tractor go through an auction for $35,500 over the weekend. That is THOUSANDS more than it cost when new. The craziness seems to have reached into every aspect of life these days.

I'm with anyone who says it will take a while and somethings will never be the same.

My wife again got us shopping and in past 2 weeks some availability is worse than it was for 12+ months. One dealer told us the margins and gross sales don't reflect the lower unit sales and demand remains high.

Some Wall St. Journal articles going back to last summer highlighted things the car makers want to do to keep choice and margins high.

If we slide into a recession, as it looks like we are, eventually they will be begging for customers. Things are cyclical. Right now there are no cars and plenty of customers. Eventually, there will be plenty of cars and not so many customers.

There will especially not be many customers for gas guzzling pickups, SUV's and Muscle Cars if gas goes over $5.00 per gallon!

Our two Deere tractors are a 2011 and a 2012 and they’ll be with us until we’re gone. Pre -DEF and other than little sensors going out, they still run great.

We're at the beginning of a transitional phase, and the impact of EVs is impossible to predict.

1 year, 4 months, 17 days, and 16 hours from now.

Or, when supply increases and/or demand decreases.

Tesla seems to be doing fine with a different model…if other car makers think they can do that and be successful, I bet they will. The supply chain disruptions might be a good opportunity to start moving in that direction, though I am sure that longer term commitments to dealers (and dealers commitments to leases) would be impediments to a fast shift. The Tesla approach is a much more cost effective model. And no haggling.

Interestingly I drove through the Ford dealership yesterday where I bought my truck last year. I drive trough every week. It is a bad habit on my part. They had no Rangers and haven't had any for months. They did have eight brand new F150s. No new Explorers, but six new Escapes. A whole row of Broncos though. They are a Ford and Cadillac dealership and there was not a single Caddi on the lot, new or used. I didn't take inventory but it looked like they had one or two of everything else. I don't know why that is, it is just feast or famine I guess.

My neighbor ordered a Ranger and is waiting for it. MSRP is forty one grand. They told him lsst week it is being built and is supposed to be here in a few weeks. They told him that any incentives that they are running when it gets here will apply.

I also will never pay over msrp.
Actually I will never pay msrp.
I will not buy in retail model where negotiation is not possible. If that means I am relegated to used only from here on out so be it.
