How many of us can play at an equal level from both the right side and the left?
I was thinking, after all these years, what would it be like to start left handed? I guess I’d know a lot more than when I started but be held back by not being left hand experienced…

I think this would be extraordinarily rare. Every so often I finger a left-handed chord and think, "Was it this hard when i started?" Doesn't seem possible that it could have been so.

That’s what I’m thinking too. My 36 year old son wanted to learn to play. I sent him a guitar and we started Zoom lessons. He really struggled for a while. Looked so hard!

I'm naturally left handed. I use power tools both right and left handed. I can write legibly with either hand. I can wield silverware equally well either way.
I've never tried to play musical instruments left-handed, I learned righty. |

When I use the horizontal slider in the transform tool in Final Cut Pro to flip the image 180 degrees I become equal at playing left and right

We have a forum member who did that a few years back, and she accomplished less left handed than she had right handed. And she's pretty accomplished playing conventionally. |

One of my guitar heroes, Cliff Aungier (RIP), was ambidextrous. He normally played left-handed, but I saw him at jam session once where he picked up a right handed guitar and played it **** near as well as he played left-handed. That's despite being rather drunk at the time....
Here's the man in action, just to give a flavour of his shambolic brilliance (playing Broonzy's Hey Hey his way): https://youtu.be/yxScfNDQbJA?t=898

I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous.
