Fumble fingers.
I can get up in front of people and play without a thought. I'm not shy and I actually thrive on playing through my mistakes and pulling them out of the gutter. I have all kinds of tricks to turn a missed chord or note into something presentable. But when I sit down with my guitar instructor it is like my fingers turn into sausages. I'm terrible. What's going on?

Same reason your blood pressure goes up at the doctors office
Sometimes an audience of one person who knows what's going on is a much tougher audience than 100 people who don't. |

I think I have a subconscious standard of perfection when playing for my teacher. The only time he says "good job" is if it is perfect, or very nearly so. At least I know he isn't stroking my ego to keep me coming back My grandchildren are much more forgiving

I'm not sure I believe you, but why do you think that is, Bob?
