Default WTB upper end Terz (G-tuned) guitar

Hi, folks.

I have some orthopedic issues that are making standard tunings increasingly uncomfortable and impractical for me, hence my recent sale of some very cherished residents of my small but prized stable.

A half-dozen years ago someone (Paul A.?) had a Running Dog Terz guitar, 23" scale or so and tuned G-G, for sale. I had way too many guitars at the time so passed, but have been intrigued ever since.

Anybody have one/know of one that might be in search of a new home? I will be in touch with Paramount about their Webber and there's always Martin 5s, but thought to inquire here in case something else cool and interesting might be available.

Many thanks,

mark

Do you have a price range in mind?

That Weber has been something I’ve looked at for years. It’s tuned as a Terz, but if you look at the actual specs, it’s about the size of a 00 Martin, so it has always just felt weird to me for that reason. I always just associate Terz with Martin Size 5, which is considerably smaller.

Thanks for the recommendations, and for the PM perspectives as well.

Yeah, the Webber is a bit larger. One of my three remaining guitars (after selling two treasured ones last week) is a Webber chocolate over cedar, and it will probably be the last one I sell, some entropic day. So there's some appeal in the build.

I'm inclined toward small-shop luthiers and their work for all kinds of reasons, so I'm trying to be open with respect to price. That Running Dog would have been ideal, I'm thinking.

Keep the cards and letters coming, and thanks...

Mark

They don’t list details or specs, but this custom Martin caught my eye when scanning Intermountain’s site. P.S.-looks like they may be closing up shop?

Joe Veillette Terzilla is well worth checking out. He makes them in 6 and 12 string versions.

Playing a Size 5 Martin tuned to G is the same string tension as a std scale guitar with a capo at the third fret. There would be no benefit.

I do tune my Size 5 to std E tuning. Strings are a little loose but the tone is acceptable.

So if fret spacing is not a problem, just tune down a std scale guitar to yield less tension.

(To make a fretboard for my Size 5 I cut off everything above the 3rd fret from a long-scale board. Third fret is now the 0 fret.)

Thank you all, for these perspectives.

I am aware that the jury is still out on whether or not short-scale guitars reliably result in lower string tension (most perspectives are that they don't), but they are appealing to me for other reasons.

At this point I'm continuing to look seriously at both the Josh House and the Webber at Paramount, and have a feeler or two out for one of Rick Davis' Running Dog models. I surely appreciate the work of you small-shop luthiers!

Keep the suggestions and recommendations coming.

Mark
