There is an aesthetic to these making them suitable to a more traditional look. I think these would work well on he project you have in mind. Just another option!
If you are talking about the 3500 series I completely agree. They work well and look great

Smile Thanks Steve!

Thanks for the info Steve.

This axe will not look all that traditional. Not with the bevels, port, Wedge, etc.

I do want tuners that are very smooth and stable with comfy buttons.

Traditional Looks are perhaps less important to me than to John. I would aim for work GREAT and look decent. Hahaha

That said, I DO want to keep him happy!

Hope you and Ryan are having FUN. Your current builds are sure pretty!

Paul

I know you specifically asked about 3-on-a-plate, but I am curious if that is just a foregone conclusion and you jumped past singles?

I only ask because I have three singles on mine and absolutely love them and would not prefer 3OP.

Yes, the 3500 series, like these:

I think those are quite attractive, and we have had good success with them.

Another vote for Alessi. I have 2 guitars with them and they are pretty perfect. It is a one man company, so you need to talk to Niccolo and see what he has in stock or have him build something for you specifically. He has also a light weight model which is pretty good looking. They are hand made and very well regarded, so it fits on a high end luthier made guitar.

Thanks Villamarzia

I like the simple look of these lightweight Alessis! And light weight is a big plus in my opinion.

The ornate engraved plates on so many tuners do not call to me. Not sure why, but that is my taste, I guess.

The price is a bit of a hurdle, tho...

Thanks for the info!

Gee the Custom Shop is a font of knowledge!!! Always more to learn

Cheers

Paul

Paul, Niccolo Alessi can go as simple as you’d like. Here is a set he made for our 100th guitar, built to commemorate my Granddad’s little parlor instrument:

IMG_1624331924.931411.jpg

Simple, rectangular nickel silver plates, chosen to replicate the originals. Keep in mind the extra strength that a 3-on plate tuner offers to a slot head. Those exterior walls are thin, and fragile as a consequence, and the added strength of the metal plate is a real bonus in this regard.

Those are nice looking. I’m glad you mentioned the extra strength factor 3 on a plate brings. That echoes my thoughts.

A great reason to have three on a plate. As is so often the case, tradition can have good reasons.

Thanks Steve.
