Thumbs up NGD - Taylor GS Mini-e - 2.5 hours drive - 100 miles

Drove 2.5 hours, 100 miles in rush hour traffic to get this.
Hopefully, it's worth it.
It has really old strings.
What gauge do these like?

GS Mini leave Taylor with mediums. Start there.

Congrats! I have a mini hog and really like it. I hope you enjoy yours.

And don't be intimidated by the mediums. Try it first. With the short scale and reduced string tension, the mediums actually feel more like lights. I'm a light gauge player on my full sized Taylor's, but love the feel, sound, volume of the mediums on my GS mini.

Some of them have electronics, some don't.

That’s the old ES-Go pickup that Taylor made for early GSMinis. They had a lot of issues with them (ground, and output) and essentially abandoned them by offering the ES pickup built in as an option. That pickup is easily removable from the guitar. I would suggest having a K&K Mini installed.

I see.
I haven't plugged in yet.

So this is pre mini-e?
I'll get the serial number to figure out year.

Congratulations on the new acquisition. Last weekend I picked up a used GS Mini mahogany (2015 model) here in England. I love it, mine came with recently changed mediums, so for now they are staying. It also has a ES-Go pickup, what more could you want? Here are my pictures.

As per serial number, it's made in Mexico in March, 2013.
Does it mean it's gs mini with pickup or that's what mini-e is?

When I saw in the thread title that you drove 100 miles in 2.5 hours, I thought, "I bet he lives on the Front Range...."

I was right! Nice guitar, btw.

Retro Mediums. Tony Rice or Laurence Jubers- doesn't matter. I'd at least try Retros once.

Retros and Hog- like peanut butter and jelly. Nice guitar BTW. I love the GS Mini Hog but can't get along with the neck- went with a Martin DJr 2 instead. Also a sweet little guitar!

Congrats and welcome to the gs mini club!

I played my first mini at the Taylor Factory in el cjaon and fell in love with the mahogany. I ended up with the koa but that just came down to pickup systems and price.

Great guitar!

Is that a good thing or bad thing?
Traffic here is okay except in rush hours.
It was supposed to be 50 minutes each way but right at 5pm, it took almost double.
I almost thought of returning back when I hit few traffic jams.

2 bones + gas + mileage depreciation.

Thumbs up

I finally got rid of my Yamaha FS700S.
That guitar stayed with me the longest, almost 3 years.
Not because GS Mini is better (didn't compare) but I already have FG800 and no need for two small guitars plus got good price for it.
FS700S feels easier in hand due to it's scale while GS Mini is slightly cramped on some chords.

I got a chance to snap few pics before it went away though...
