Default What is the hardest chord to finger?

Just looking at that d9th chord thread made me wonder.

Whatever chord your guitar teacher is trying to teach you next. (Probally a real finger twister if you're prone to temper bursts and kicking em in the family jewels. )

Dm7add9

---3---------------
---6--------------
---9--------------
---7--------------
---5--------------

Here's a fun one. Use your left hand thumb to get the 3rd fret of first string by coming under the neck and using the side of the thumb. I've seen Tuck Andress get in and out of chords like this like it's nothing.

well, Ted Greene's books have some real knuckle twisters

I gave up on some, because they are so hard to finger, they'd be impossible to use in a progression ... better to KISS

that's probably why I prefer regular old chords for Folk stuff, and Freddie Green type 3 note chords for jazz comping

This song I wrote once is chock-full of em! It's a very rewarding song, I think, but it takes some practice. I'll actually make a recording of it and post it tomorrow. 6/8 time I think.

Cmaj9:
-0-
-0-
-7- (Lead in- 1 strum)
-5-
-3-
-x-

C#m maj9:
-0-
-0-
-8- (2 measures)
-6-
-4-
-x-

Dmaj13 add Eb:
-0-
-0-
-8- (2 measures)
-11-
-9-
-10-

F#m7#5:
-0-
-2-
-2- (1 measure)
-0-
-0-
-2-

Gmaj13:
-0-
-3-
-0- (1 measure)
-4-
-5-
-2-

Amaj11:
-0-
-3-
-1- (1/2 measure)
-2-
-0-
-x-

Amaj7:
-0-
-2-
-1- (1/2 measure)
-2-
-0-
-x-

Bm maj11
-0-
-0-
-7- (1/2 measure)
-8-
-9-
-7-

Bm maj11
-0-
-0-
-6- (1/2 measure)
-8-
-9-
-7-

For a total of 10 measures. Then repeat.

Hard chord! Wouldn't that just be Dm9 though, and could be played like this:

-x-
-5-
-5-
-3-
-5-
-x-

I know this, if a chord has more than one letter and one number or two letters and on "sign", it just does not need to be played or written in a song!

[QUOTE=onetubetone.......Wouldn't that just be Dm9 though......-[/QUOTE]

Yup, you're right!

I guess I thinking that if you didn't have that G on the first string it would be just Dm add9,so then adding the b7 on top.... oops.

A cool trick with using the thumb with chords like that is to, for example, slide the thumb up two frets after hitting it, or maybe doing arpeggios, etc.
