Songs you can't listen to
Tears in Heaven.
I listened to it once when it first came out and turn it off immediately every time I heard it after that. Even though my son is 26, I still can't bring myself to listen to it again.

There are so many that have me telling Alexa to change the station, but Imagine, Come On Eileen, Fairytale of New York, and that awful Get Lucky garbage spring immediately to mind.

I disliked very little music in my life. But in the 70s a guy named Billy Swan was popular. To me it sounded like a mix of fats domino and those cheap rythm boxes organs used to have in the 70's (was bossa. nova popular anywhere?)
That my evil stepmom liked it didn't help. My biggest fear is that they have Billy Swan on repeat in hell. |

In keeping with what I believe is the OP’s original question, for me, it’s Maggie’s Song by Chris Stapleton

almost any 16 bar pop-song. so appallingly repetitive- because they are, of course, for youngsters to jump up and down to. Almost anything by a pop girl trio. Actually, almost anything - pop now, but I'm over 70 and I'm fully qualified in Stage 4 curmudgeonliness! But I did discover this on Yew tewbe recently. This is a choral version of the delightful"Yorkshire lass "Kate Rusby"

"Zero Tolerance for Silence" - Pat Metheny
I am a fan of Metheny, but have never made it to the end of this "exploration". |

Is that for emotional reasons connected to the theme of Eric's song? Not probing, just curious. A single song…Sympathy For the Devil. There are styles of music I avoid completely, but if there is a style of music I just cannot get 'into', it's jazz which starts without clearly defined melody/chords, and becomes so disjointed that I can no longer detect a unified cohesion to the group or the music. In my mind it just seems to wander and finally goes off down the garden path without any satisfying conclusion. Unfortunately, it is one of my gigging partner's (and best friend) favorite styles. Our friendship is intact and I only end up having to endure a song or two a year. I admire the talent, but the style actually grates on my nerves. Some of the players are amazing and obviously are dedicated to their craft. But it escapes me (and I do not pursue it). |

Pancho and Lefty
Wagon wheel There are a few others, but when these come up at a jam or open mic, I head to the restroom to get away from the pain of listening to them. |
