Lightbulb 80/20 vs Phosphor Bronze strings on Rosewood

Hi all,

I am trying some 80/20 strings on a Rosewood / Spruce guitar, and I'm curious about how many others are doing this as well -- and if any of you have kept using them ...

Still feeling them out, however at the moment they appear to give a transparent, natural tone that is growing on me...

Here's what they sound like:

Please chime in with your thoughts on either this or your own recordings / experiences...

All the best,

Thank you - would be curious if any of the sound clips out there for the OM-28 are using 80/20... I hadn't seen any that specified this detail so far...

Depends on the guitar. I use ph/br on an HD35 Custom Shop and 80/20 on an HD28V.

I just but some JP PB's on my Larrivee 000-44r and they sound absolutely incredible. Previously used 80/20. The 80/20 sounded really good also but to me lacked a little bit of definition and snap on this particular guitar.

As a rule, I prefer 80/20 strings on my rosewood instruments. But my rosewood Gibson Advanced Jumbo sounds best with phosphor bronze.

So it really depends on how the individual guitar responds.

Sounds really nice! But as others have mentioned, it really is guitar dependent. Yet still, playing style also factors in.

Nice playing. I'm a fan of 80/20's on my Gibson, but the same guitar sounds great using EJ 17's for about two weeks.

I use Martin SP 80/20 on my Olson, which is cedar top over EIR back and sides. 80/20 gives that guitar a little more treble to brighten it up just enough. It's the only guitar I use 80/20 strings on. I use D'Addario PB on all my other guitars except for my '67 D-35, which has become overly bright with age and where I use John Pearse PB.
