Should I get the A3 for Godin Electric Nylon?
Hi All,
I just bought a Godin ACS Nylon string for solo acoustic gigs. My plan is to use it with a JBL EON612 PA speaker (haven't bought it yet) instead of an acoustic amp. Here's my question. I was thinking of getting the Zoom A3 to add some reverb and maybe improve the sound of the piezo in the Godin. However, I already have a Zoom G3X that I use with my electric. From what I can tell, the A3 is very similar to the G3X. Is it worth getting the A3 for the acoustic "body and model types" or can I accomplish the same thing (or close to it) with the G3X? I suspect these acoustic-specific bits in the A3 are just EQ settings anyways. BTW, the Godin is an awesome thing. It's one of those "can't put it down" guitars - you want to play it forever. |

It's a good question. I think there's more to those acoustic models than just EQ, but I'd recommend just seeing what you can accomplish with the G3X first. At some point, once you have a sense of what can be accomplished that way, you can compare similar settings on the A3 with the models added to see if it makes enough of a difference to get the dedicated acoustic unit.
FWIW, I use an Aura 16 with my nylon Multiac with very good results, so those guitars do take modeling/imaging well. Since you have an ACS model, you might want to look into what a guitar synth might do for you. Louis Last edited by lschwart; 03-17-2016 at 05:24 PM. |

Re: Should I get the A3 for Godin Electric Nylon?
OK, so I got the JBL and hooked up the G3X. After a bit of tweaking (I'm using the Parametric EQ and Arena Reverb on the G3X) I got what I think is a pretty good (and potentially very loud) sound. I think I'll stick with this, unless I find an A3 really cheap someplace.
BTW, the JBL EON612 is a bit noisy. I was surprised to hear some noticeable broadband noise coming out of it, even with nothing plugged in and the gains all the way down. My beat-up Fender Blues Jr. (all-tube) is quieter. On the plus side, the EON phone app is fun to play with |
