I've used both the PB round and hex core.

For some reason I didn't like them much on electric, but I love them on acoustic. In general I'm not a huge fan of round cores as they can be a little tubby or overly warm, but with these I think the round cores are rather nice sounding.

That said, it's been a long while since I last had a set due to the price. Just decided to pick up a set of 6 round cores (20% on packs of 6) and will be happy to update this thread tomorrow when they come in and I restring in the evening.

I tried their Monel round-core lights to see how they compared with Martin Retro Monels.
They felt great, sounded good with a touch more volume but those Martin's are a bargain and there wasn't enough difference to convince me to swap to the CM's.

FWIW, the Monel round cores are only a couple bucks more than the Martins when you buy them in packs of 6.

Mangan's are a premium string. Most premium PB strings sound great on my guitar.

I installed a set of the medium roundcore during March 2019 on my Guild D-120 and my comment was "Sound very good on this guitar."

Why I didn't use them again is one of the great mysteries of life.

Yes. I like them. I just swapped an old set out for DR Sunbeams. Hard to say which I like better. They're both great.

To be honest I have used many sets of Curt Mangan strings on many instruments (mandolin, mandola, mandocello, guitar) and I haven't found a set I haven't liked yet.

I just ordered 2 sets of the round core 12-53 pb Curt Mangan strings to try out, among other sets in my Strings and Beyond order. 15% off today. If I may, I will say that they are a really good string supplier and my number one these days.

All comes down to personal preference I guess. I received several sets of CM strings from a great guy I knew who really liked them. I put them on the Goodall I owned at the time and was totally underwhelmed. Went back to Martin SPs as quickly as I could.

But it's worth trying CMs and other different strings. If I hadn't experimented I never would have discovered Newtone strings, which tick the boxes for me.

We're fortunate to have such a wide choice.

I've tried the Monel 11-52 round-core sets on both of my RW guitars. I find that the strings work better on the brighter guitar (Crafter in my case). My Worland works better with DR Sunbeams.

Also, they last for a long time.

I use both the RC and HC quite often on My E10SS; I like them a lot. I'vegot a set of 1/2 sizes on it now.
12.5-55

I like.

I’ve used several varieties of the Mangan round cores.
They were all very good and I consider them a cut above.
I’m just hooked on Newtones

A follow up on my previous post. I tried the set on my Hex parlor today. All I can say is... use the Monel strings on parlors only if you want to accentuate the inherent boxy tone.

Yes. I first tried Curt Mangan strings last year. I've tried a few different sets on several instruments. They are the best sounding phosphor bronze strings I've tried yet on my F5 mandolin, mandola and mandocello.

I haven't tried them on my Martin HD-28 yet, but will when the DR Sunbeams on it now wear out.
