What are your thoughts on how this might effect tone after repair?

If it's done right it will have no effect.

Re-hydrating the instrument, gluing the crack, bridging the inside with cleats, and touching up the finish can result in a nearly invisible repair.

Do you happen to know what happened that lead to the split? Was the guitar humidified at all? If it wasn't, I would humify it for a good while, then do the repair. That will make the wood "swell" to where it's supposed to be. A couple of tiny spruce cleats well positioned will be all that it needs. Anything and everything can change the tone, but the question is will a human ear be able to hear the difference. I would say no. Make sure you keep it humidified afterwards.

As far as the finish, redo it at your risk. I've made some guitars look worse after trying to "touch up" the finish.
