Default One Of My Favorite Songs From The Early Days Of FM Rock Radio is ...

Al Stewart's "Roads To Moscow." To me, given today's setting of strife and conflict in Eastern Europe, this song translates to and finds a new relevance to the current time but hopefully ends in a modern-times reversal of the storyline given the current adversaries.

Man, thanks so much for posting this.
I loved this when it came out, and still do after watching this.

It's dark, eery, sad and has a sense of longing, saudade, even. And has a historical basis too.

Cheers, Colin

It's taken me a long time to find out when FM radio started here in the UK .

It was 1955,and after browsing the "hit Parade" of that date, the only "Rock Songs" I can find are both by Bill Haley - Rock Around the Clock, and "Shake Rattle & Roll.

I think it was a Little Richard song that I heard someone playing in the distance, and I climbed our apple tree to listen to it from a neighbour's bedroom window. I guess it was some time in the '50s.

I bought my first two singles on my birthday in 1959, one was by Lonnie Donegan (skiffle) and the other was Tom Hark by a south African band called Elias and his five jive flutes.

I think the first Rock record I bought was Blue Moon by the Marcels in 1961.

Youtube has everything. (Looked up the record because I keep trying to play pennywhistle & figured from the reference that this would be kwela.)
