I have seen holes in packages before that were clearly and unambiguously due to a fork lift before.

We also got a package at work once where FedEx had clearly run over it with a forklift. The tire tracks even matched our Hyster.

I once had a camera shipped to me that turn up damaged with puncture wounds in the box - the box and camera actually had red paint transfer on them, which I assume was forklift blades.

So sorry to see. I feel your pain. I hope it's resolved to your satisfaction. The key is to have a seller that cares and will be tough with FedEx, since they are the primary FedEx customer. Hindsight is 20/20 (and I know it's a cost issue) but I wouldn't do a deal if a guitar isn't going to be shipped in a case because -not all- but many shipping handlers just don't care.

When my Collings arrived this week the Fedex guy dumped it by the door and scampered off without even knocking, much less obtaining a signature, which in my experience none of the carriers are doing nowadays understandably. When I picked it up to bring it inside the guitar shockingly slid out the bottom of the box. Somehow the bottom of the box had been blown completely out along the way and no-one bothered to tape it up again.

I actually prefer Fedex for no particular reason. Stuff like this happens with all of the carriers.

Thanks for all the replies. It was not in a case just double boxed. Inside box was a Yamaha standard box. I think it would have survived if in a case but it was a hard puncture. Lesson learned. Waiting for seller (a music store) to come through.

Next to me. He threw an acoustic guitar up to the guy and the guy fumbled. It hit the tarmac neck first.
Guy just picked it up and threw it again. They dont care. Pays to have an airline proof case..but nothing's certain. Sorry this happened to you.
Hope you get it resolved soon.

This is all part of the high you get from the online experience.

Sometimes it goes badly, and I’m sorry for you that it did.

Skydiving is more intense, but in the same vein. It’s not for everyone.

Default FedEx shipping disaster

Recent UPS delivery. Fortunately the guitar was in a hard shell case ensconced in heavy gauge bubble wrap. No notification as to how the damage occurred and I confirmed it certainly wasn't something the Dealer did.

Both case and guitar were fine.

These look more like the results of vandalism than shipping damage.

Anyone in logistics to comment?
There are a million things in warehouses, shipping terminals, and delivery trucks that could cause a puncture, even other items being shipped. Carelessness? Yeah probably, but I doubt intentional vandalism is the cause.

I have been riding with the angels when it comes to shipping guitars even ones without any case. But there is a reason I have them all insured. I have not been as lucky with other things I shipped including a late-19th century fully restored clock and a post-War Lionel locomotive.

Big Bummer!

FedEx and other shippers have been (for some time now) using plastic pallets instead of wood. The forklifts simply go right thru them if the operator is speeding around (normal) or the load shifts. The wood ones seemed to be much less suseptible to that.

I've gotten two instruments this year shipped through FedEx and luckily they both showed up in one piece. One had a puncture in the outer box but it wasn't big and it wasn't anywhere near the guitar. I say lucked out, because ten people might touch that box and it just takes one person.
