Default Simple baritone string question.

How light can I go with Baritone strings and still tune it to B-B?

The guitar has D'Addario .016 through .070 on it now. D'Addario also makes a baritone set .014 through .068. That should be fine for B-B tuning? I hope.

Go to Kennaquhair Stringed Instruments and download Doug's extremely useful USTC (Universal String Tension Calculator) program, or use one of the online calculators, and play with various scenarios.

Input the scale length, the individual gauges of the EXP23 set (though the calculator only goes to .066 if I recall correctly) and the pitches, and it'll show you the individual string and total load on the bridge and top of the guitar.

Then play with gauges...it's not everyone's idea of fun but I enjoy it (though I admit that I don't get out often enough!).

It's a 27.5 right? I wouldn't worry about it. It won't sound as good, but you won't pop a set labeled "baritone strings" on a 27.5 inch scale guitar with B to B.

Edited to add if it's a wound 2nd that's smaller than .022, I would expect that to not last very long.
