Default Bracing on a Martin D-18

The crossbrace on my Martin D-18 Modern Deluxe looks like it isn’t glued to the soundboard securely. Is this how they are made, or is there an issue going on with this guitar? The guitar was purchased used, so I don’t know the history of it.

Pictures would help. Try sticking your phone in there.

Braces should be generally be glued solidly, yes.

Sometimes braces have cutouts to allow other brace to be tucked under them.

I don’t have a good inspection mirror yet, but this is the best I could muster with what I have. Also, the top of the guitar almost appears to be sinking in around the bridge/soundhole area… unless it’s just an optical illusion from the darker woodgrain in the center of the guitar.

That doesn't look right.

I'd get the string tension off of there and have it checked out by a qualified repair person.

There are some really good repair folks on here (I'm not one of them), so you should get some good advice.

But, it looks to me like that guitar might have been exposed to extreme heat, and the glue behind the bridge loosened up.

That brace is loose. The good thing is that it is a straightforward repair.

Looks like the finger brace might need to be tacked down again too. If you bought that used you deserve to be upset about it. Something happened to that guitar. Bad storage conditions, impact, or something.

Definitely a loose brace. The good news is, it’s not a huge expensive fix, assuming there is nothing else going on. If you can tell folks your approximate location perhaps someone can recommend a quality tech in your area.

If that is actually a Martin D18, they have slipped considerably since I last looked inside one.

Besides that brace, all the work inside there looks pretty roughly done.

It has the CF-Spruce-CF bridge plate so it's likely to be the real thing. For a very blurry picture I am curious what aspects of its construction disappoints? Fair warning, I don't even own an acoustic guitar at the moment, and have no Martin fanboy problems that I am aware of. :~).
