Default I did a crazy thing

This past Saturday I traded my beautiful Larrivee OM-40R fo a Gretsch electric guitar. It is a Gretsch G2420 Streamliner in Cherry red. I haven't played an electric since 1976. When I bought my first acoustic guitar on the wall of the music shop was a Gretsch white falcon and I thought it was the most beautiful guitar I had ever seen and I wanted it so bad but it was far too expensive for a 16 year old boy to afford. Well my new Streamliner is not white but it is a beauty anyway. And it plays nice too. I can play chords that I could not play before. I can now play a Bm barre chord. on this new guitar. I really like it, but sometimes I think did I do the right thing? It does work better with the praise and worship music I play with the praise team at church.

If you’re happy with the new guitar, then that is most important. My one concern with a straight trade is that the OM-40R is usually a higher-priced guitar than the Streamliner Gretsch. I hope you got some cash or other added value out of the trade.

Congrats on the Gretsch! I'm sure you got a great guitar but one day you'll be missing that Larrivee. Did you like the Larrivee?

Nothing crazy about wanting a Gretsch semi.

Enjoy!

I think a Gretsch is the perfect electric guitar for an acoustic player.

Current MSRP for the Larrivee OM-40R is $2338...

Street price for the Gretsch G2420 Streamliner hardtail is $449, $549 with Bigsby...

Store could probably flip that Larry quick for $1700 if it's in good playing/cosmetic shape - more if they're not in a hurry - and IMO they easily could have thrown in a brand-new-with factory-warranty Bugera V22/V55, Vox AC10, or Fender Pro Junior tube combo, and still come out well ahead of the game...

BTW if you still have a jones for a White Falcon (and already have an amp to run it through), they probably could have done a straight even-up deal on one of these, a hardshell case, and a case-candy goodie bag (strings/picks/cable/strap/polishing cloth) - and with some well-chosen, readily-available aftermarket parts it'd be a close match for the (discontinued) $3500 6136DC '62 tribute:

If the Streamliner meets your current/anticipated needs, use it well - IME the Brooklyn-vintage Filter'Tron/Hi-lo'Tron/Dynasonic "Great Gretsch Sound" is very well-suited to CCM/P&W (former worship leader/church musician-for-hire here) - but offering that Larrivee in trade I'm just sorry you weren't able to do better...

Really sounds like a win-lose deal to me. I would have just kept the Larivee and bought the Gretsch. They aren’t that expensive.

I did get some cash back and I added an overdrive pedal and a case and a leather strap to the deal.

I am retired so I don't have a lot of cash at hand. Also I had a stroke 3 years ago and I find I just don't have the hand strength I used to have in my left hand so ai am liking the electric a lot because I can do barre chords again with the electric.

That sounds like you got a decent deal, then. I hope you enjoy and have fun with it!
