Sure. The modes are one possible framework and way to answer those questions I was posing. But as you point out there are other ways of knowing and understanding.

I was just underlining the reference nature of that one source. Harmonizing the harmonic minor scale is not something I've ever internalized and couldnt do on the fly without working it out. But I could look it it up.
