Thumbs up Doerr Solace Select Standard Build Thread

Well Tom Doerr is about to start building me a custom Fingerstyle guitar. I ordered his Solace Select model which is his largest model. But I ordered the more affordable soon to be announced on his web site Standard line.

The Specs
German Spruce Top
Wenge Back and Sides
Ebony Body binding
Ryan Style Bevel
No Cutaway
Cocobolo Top Purfling and Rosette
Kostal inspired Custom Headstock overlay Cocobolo
25.5" scale length
1 13/16" nut width
LR Baggs Element VT

I had heard a lot of good things about Tom's guitars from friends on here who had them, who's opinions of high end guitars I trust. His pictures speak for them selves as far as a level of detail and quality in his builds. A few months ago I bought a used 08 Doerr Legacy for a good buy just to try, knowing it would be too small for me. It's tone and responsiveness surpassed all my expectations. It was very very impressive. I've owned a lot of really nice guitars and I'm expecting this to be my main fingerstyle instrument. I passed the Doerr Legacy on to a friend and I have to sell a couple more guitars to pay for this one in full. But I'm excited about this build!! Here are some photos of the materials Tom will be using

All the wenge guitars I've played have been super - nasty splinters though!

Good choice; will look forward to seeing this come together.

cheers,
Steve

Bobby,

Exciting stuff! Can't wait to see this one begin to come together - and I always enjoy your reviews after delivery. Wenge is the wood at the top of my list were I to bring myself to sell off a guitar or two and commission another one at some point. So I'll be paying particular attention to this one.

Thanks for initiating this build thread!

John

I have a Stehr waiting to be built with Wenge, along with a Carpathian top, and I think the contrast will be really nice. However, Tom Doerr's guitars are always impressive and I'm happy to be a fly on the wall for this!!

They certainly do have done nasty splitters and large pores. But well worth it in the end
