Hello! Received some more pictures from Mary a while ago, and Tim is really progressing on my guitar build. The last set of pictures got us to the double sides, and this set will show Tim sanding the sides on his radial sander (sanding for a 30' radius on the top), adding the kerfling, thickness sanding the inner and outer back pieces (this is for his hollow back design) and cutting out the inner and outer backs.

The double sides are placed in the form and inner braces are put in place in preparation for radial sanding.

Then to the radial sander.

Tim then begins to clip the kerfling in place.

Colorful kerfling clips.

A colorful frame.

Once the kerfling has set and the clips are removed, it's back to the radial sander.

More pics...

Tim prepares to draw the shape for the outer back (quilted birds-eye maple).

And the inner back (madagascar rosewood).

Once the shapes are drawn, it's cutting time...the inner back.

I just love the looks of this madagascar rosewood.

And then the outer back.

My, my, my...that's just plain pretty!

And back to sanding for the perfect thickness.

A huge thank you to Mary for taking the photos and keeping me up-to-date on the build progress. And, of course, to Tim for his unsurpassed craftsmanship.

Having met Tim and played some of his guitars, they really are exceptional. His hollowback design is very progressive....would love to see the proprietary design behind it LOL

Hello! Tim continues to work on his Healdsburg Sisters. The photos below will show Tim gluing the sides to the back as well as beginning to prepare the top for having the soundhole marked.

Glue is placed on the side and the the back side is placed on the back...

A "donut" is placed on the top sides and "go bars" are placed on top to press the sides to the back...

Tim cleans up any excess glue and the donut and go bars set in place until the sides are securely attached to the back...

And the sides are eventually well attached to the back and any excess glue has been cleaned away...

Now, to the vintage 50s redwood top. The excess glue is planed away...

The thickness of the Healdsburg Sisters using redwood tops is measured. Each will be sanded to the exact thicknesses needed for the tone desired by each guitarist...

To the thickness sander...

Marking the "sweet spot" for the sound hole...

"X" marks the spot...

I hope you enjoy the photos of the build progress. If I'm inundating you too much, just let me know and I will cut down on the number of photos. I guess I'm just a "bit" excited by this build and I find the luthier's craft amazing.

A big THANKS to Tim for his unsurpassed craftsmanship and to Mary for helping with design and taking all the pictures.

Hello! Tim has finished the rosette, and I thought I would share some pictures of his work on the rosette with you.

Shellacing the wood protects the wood as Tim begins his work on the rosette.

Tim begins the routing for the rosette placement.

And the routing has to be sanded smooth.

The rosette is pieced together.

The inside circle is cut.

And the rosette is finally cut out. The tape holds it together.

The tape is carefully removed for the big reveal.

The spalted maple rosette is placed in the top and glue is applied to begin placing the inner trim lines.

Red and black trim lines will really make the spalted maple stand out!

And the inner trim lines are pressed into place.

Pictures continued through the crafting of the rosette.

The "way cool" spalted maple rosette is almost completed.

Routing for the interior rosette design.

The abalone diamonds must be placed one at a time.

And each one adjusted so they are all straight.

Well, each looks straight, right?

Now, add the ebony saw dust and glue.

After it sits overnight, the top with the new rosette goes through the sander a few times.

And we have a finished rosette.

It looks awesome! I don't usually like abalone rosettes but pairing it with a wood rosette just looks soooo tasteful.

BTW, this post couldn't have come at a better time! I'm about to do something similar (albeit a touch simpler) on my first build. I hope Tim doesn't mind if I take notes!

Very cool rosette Tim. I love spalted maple and I love abalone, and I think the marrige is very cool.

You're not kidding, that black/red combo for the trim really makes the spalted maple jump right out. Looks amazing!

Fantastic build to follow. Thanks

OK, dumb question time. So, (ebony saw dust glue) is that what they use to fill in around inlays? or a variation depending on the wood?
