Indeed an amazing album wrought out of such tragedy. SCC is one of my all time favorite artists. This is however, I believe to be his best writing ever. Check out SCC's website for the amazing journey he and his family have and continue to go through as they grieve the loss of Maria.

Bless you John as you build this next amazing instrument for Steven.

I can see how a Mayes guitar can inspire great song writing. I'm inspired everytime I play mine for sure!!!!!!!

Check his website, here. There's a nice pic of Chapman playing his Mayes. I think he uses that one to record and compose, primarily. Maybe the new one will be used onstage with some of his others?

Well, I'd keep the Mayes at home and not take it on tour. Touring can be very hard on instruments and a Taylor, Mchperson, Martin are pretty easy to come by

Yeah like others said SCC uses his old Mayes primarily for song writing and recording not for playing live. It would be nice for John Mayes if he used it live. This new SD-43 Mayes that he ordered is a vastly different guitar than the old Small Jumbo was. I think his old guitar was Cocobola and ADI or European spruce Small Jumbo. I can't remember which type of spruce. This new vintage Gibson Style Dreadnought is one powerhouse dread and with ADI and Mahogany it should be a knock out!!! John's guitars are very resonant and light weight, with tons of power and great dynamics!!!! The lower bought on his dreads are bigger than your standard dread size from either Gibson or Martin. They are 16 1/4"

As most of you know I own an SD-43 and it is still by far the best guitar I've ever played and it looks great too!! I couldn't imagine ever selling this guitar!

John posted an update to the SCC part of his site. There is also a completed version of the same woods and style of the SD-43 he's building for SCC in the Gallery http://www.mayesguitars.com/index.ph...tars&Itemid=37.

John Put a couple more updates on his site, this time showing the neck and fretboard and the bent sides off the SCC SD-43.

Thanks for the heads-up Bobby. Hadn't seen that pretty sunburst HOG SD-43 in the gallery before, either. That is one sweet looking slope dread, for sure. Great looking set of wood.

I need to figure out how to link the archived articles that I pruned due to page size.... I'll figure it out...

Edit: I did it. Cool. Also added a search function at the bottom of all pages. Nifty.

No not putting a pickup in it unless he tells me otherwise.

In the past I know he has used LR Baggs systems. That's what I put in his last guitar. But he uses my guitar almost exclusively to record with. Every song on his last CD except two were his Mayes.
