+1 Agreed
In "Some Like It Hot" she performed three songs. Here are two of them. The song sung on the train has her strumming a single chord on the Ukulele.

One of my very favorite classic movies. If you have not seen this movie...please do not judge by this one scene. This movie, like many other classics offers a great story about moral character.
As Wade said...she was a very good singer. And while, she probably did not play the guitar on that song...she did a better job at faking it than 90% other actors in movies who did not play guitar. She even did the bass line run. Here is a quote from the trivia section of International Movie Data Base"Marilyn Monroe's voice was her own & she worked hard to get her guitar fingering accurate. What we heard was not what those hands were playing on that cheapo guitar.

She looked like she was playing the song, and it certainly sounded like her voice singing. Watch the credits at the end. They list music credits for each song.

The chords almost don’t matter as long as they’re in the right key. Her voice led the whole arrangement and the real or fake strumming was just an accent to her beautiful voice. I say beautiful I think because so much over processed auto tuned unnatural female voices these days, that was a refreshing reminder.

Wade Hampton could maybe help me out here, but I seem to remember that Howard Klepper gave Marilyn some guitar tuition back in the day ... or is my memory confused ?

Any chance this thread can also have favorite songs about Marilyn?
Of course there’s the Elton John tune “Candle in the Wind” that became the Ryan White song, then the Princess Diana song, and now anyone who passes too soon. But my favorite is a cover of a T-Bone Burnett tune “After All These Years” by the 90’s folk duo Harrod & Funck. Two guys with guitars, harmonica and harmony. Do you have a fave? |

What kind of guitar is she playing in the River of no Return movie? Anyone know what may have happened to the actual guitar?

Chords did not look bad. I'm sure she can sing. She did sing Happy Birthday in front of a large audience.
