Some great 12 strings already. Would be great to keep them coming in this thread.

The two at the top are:

Sobell 12 string archtop Brazilian Rosewood/Spruce

Kostal 12 string quilted Sapele/spruce.

Default My BSG

Hi Folks, I'd like to show you the finest horse in my stable: a BSG small jumbo (BSG stands for "Bures Stivocek Guitars" http://www.bsguitars.cz/company-bsguitars.html), it was built in the Czech Republic. It's a real monster - one of the finest 12-strings I ever played, and I've played quite a lot! This guitar can be played very smooth, but when you hit it really hard (and I prefer power-picking a la Leo Kottke), it's a monster, you would be waking up the neighbors, when you play it at night ! There's a little story behind it - how I found that guitar: For my 50th birthday, I presented myself with a long time dream guitar - a Taylor 855 CE 12-string. At first I found it wonderful, until I stringed it up with heavy gauge strings and tuned it down 2 steps, because I like playing the Kottke-style and do that with all my 12-strings. But that was impossible with that guitar, although I tried everything I could (and went to a large guitar score, but they couldn't help me, too). So I took the guitar and went to https://www.tfoa.eu/de/ in the Netherlands. And there I found this BSG and fell in love with it! Okay, I had to add 750 Euro to the change, but it is worth every penny! It has Cocobolo back and sides and a beautiful bearclaw top! I love it

We're I to acquire a 12-string, I'd purchase a modern version of the Stella that Leadbelly played.

Either by Mike Hauver:

Or Todd Cambio:

Default Another Stella Interpretation

I've got something similar to that in my collection, a Stella replica built by the Belgian luthier Hugo Valcke, with ladder bracing (does the original Stella have that too? I don't know...). The body is quite small, but the sound is big and loud!

I would love to have a 12 fret short scale version. So I will follow this thread!

Hi, I used to have a long scale 12 - the 26.5" scale Del 'Arte "Leadbelly" which I found very difficult to keep in tune, tuned down to C-c.

My Martin D12-20, is 24.9, and I guess my Harmony H1270 at 25" is just about standard scale.

Default 12 Strings

This is a very entertaining thread. My favorite so far has been the stunning Koa Ryan. The woods on that are spectacular and I love the small sound ports on the beveled arm rest.

I didn't have close to a Ryan budget when looking for a 12 string. Here are some photos of my 2008 Breedlove Masterclass A20 12-string in Adirondack spruce and East Indian rosewood. This was a custom build for a private collector, whom I bought the guitar from. It has Gotoh 510 tuners, figured mahogany neck, ebony fretboard and pinless bridge, and bloodwood binding on the body, fingerboard, and rosette. I added the matching bloodwood tuner buttons and custom inlaid truss rod cover.

I have always liked the Breedlove 12 strings because of their unique and modern design. The headstock does not look overly large, as on some 12 string guitars. Plus, Breedlove uses the bridge doctor system to relieve some of the pressure off the top (so they can use lighter bracing), and twelve steel strings exert quite a bit of pressure.

I played quite a few high end 12 strings before finding this one, including owning a Breedlove Classic XII in Sitka/Ebony. This particular 12 string really stands out sonically (at least to me), and I feel very fortunate to have found it.
