I just finished reading, Grace Like A River, by Christopher Parkening, one the preeminent classical guitarists in this country. I was amazed to hear his accounts of how much time and effort went into getting his nails precisely correct and how much even a small variation in nail length, shape and bevel could adversely affect what he was looking for in terms of tone. I found it interesting also that the master, Segovia, specifically told Parkening not to play Flamenco anymore in his concerts, saying that "Classical and flamenco are two different sides of a mountain, and they do not look at one another."
