Question Taylor 100 series questions

I had an email from Guitar Center, and there were a couple of new Taylors in the 100 series, with Rosewood back. Took a look on the site, looks nice. Couple of questions for anyone in the know -

I have not scene them online anywhere else. Could the be just exclusive for Guitar Center? Here is the link the Grand Auditorium https://www.guitarcenter.com/Taylor/...tar-Regular.gc and the one for the dread https://www.guitarcenter.com/Taylor/...rySiloedViewCP

And the next question is, has anyone actually tried them? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Hi. I can't answer your specific question but I can relate a recent experience I had. I was looking for a Taylor 312. No cutaway, no electronics, just Taylor 312. I came across a Taylor 312 V-class on the GC website and I thought "wait a minute, Taylor doesn't even show that on their website". Like you, I wondered if it might be a GC exclusive. So I called Taylor, they are always very helpful on the phone, and the Taylor guy told me they could be ordered, they just don't always update their website with everything that is available. I guess that's a long winded way to say why not call Taylor and see what they say? A 100 would still be layered wood but even layered rosewood would be pretty awesome.

It doesn't really matter what it is cause 100 series guitars are just layered.. Taylor is on the record saying none of these sound any different than the others.

It's just a thin rosewood veneer to change the appearance. Underneath it's no different than the one with a Mahogany/Sapele veneer. The pressed/arched back and lack of required back bracing is more important to the final sound than the outer appearance veneer.

So if you really want it to look like Rosewood and you can only get it at GC then maybe you want to go find one at GC.

I think the 200 series is layered Rosewood just like this one so you can always get a 200 instead if the 100 w/Rosewood is not available. The 200 just has slightly different/nicer appointments I think.

The 100 series is built much like a Yairi, with solid wood layers.
So it will be a Rosewood/poplar/rosewood sandwich.

I have no idea on availability.
But I have an earlier (2014) 110e.
I believe that it is a way better guitar than would be indicated by what I paid for mine.
It does get “boxy” sounding when the strings get old.
But new strings is a small price to pay to keep it sounding good.

Taylor 200 series made before 2007 were all solid wood. They represent an excellent buy.

I have a 110 in my stash with a K&K pickup. It's a wonderful sounding guitar both plugged and unplugged.

As others have said, the rosewood is just a veneer. $800 is a lot of money to pay for a relatively low end guitar. The rosewood appearance is the hook to get you to shell out more than you might or buy a different brand for the same money. Bob Taylor is a master at marketing.

I can't give first hand info on the 100 series but I do know that I have played some other brands that have laminated sides and backs and I did hear a big difference in the woods used.

In each case, I played a Mahogany sides and back and a Rosewood sides and back variant.

Every time, the guitars with Rosewood sides and backs had a Rosewood sound.
The same for Mahogany sounding like Mahogany.

If you like the sound of a guitar with Rosewood sides and backs, the 100 Rosewood should be a great choice for you.

I though the inside and outer veneer only matched on 200 DLX models.
Regular 200 and 100 series had a sepele inner veneer, no matter what the outer veneer was (rosewood, koa, etc).

That was 2 or so years ago so I guess it could have changed...

I was under the impression that the inner and outer layers were the same.
I could be wrong.

No experience with the Rosewood, but I absolutely love my 110 and will never part with it.
