Going a little off topic, some mention that 00 can be boxy sounding. I wonder if having a soundport built would help with hearing more of the sound and be less boxy....

Also, regarding woods, the most amazing small body guitar I ever heard was mahogany/englemann 14.5". That one ranks up in the top 5 guitar I ever played. It sounded like, to me, a smaller Olson than a high end Olson SJ. Just amazing...

Is the degree of 'boxiness' in the sound quality correlated to the degree of overbuilding?

IMHO yes. That's my take on the do called boxy sound.
