Default I just tried the Guyker 1:21 Tuning machines, I was astounded.

I was looking for the gotoh 1:21 tuning machine heads when I chanced upon this Guyker brand ones. decided to buy and give it a try, since it didn't cost much.

put it on, and I was impressed with them! they had good weight, fit into my headstock perfectly, (which means the dimensions aligned with gotoh dimensions) and they stayed in tune for the 2 days that I've tried it so far. the gears are pretty smooth (2 out of 6 were abit rough, but maybe cos I tightened the buttons really tight), and it works well.

I also confirmed that the gear ratio is correct - 1:21. it took me 21 full rotations of the button to move the post by a full 360 degree circle.

only one issue is that the button shafts are not the same size as gotoh. (these Guyker shafts are slightly bigger), so I can't use my gotoh ebony buttons with them.

here's a pic!

They look very nice. Glad that you could find something that works for you. I have Gotohs on 4 of my guitars. The older guitars have the 1:18s and the newer guitars have the 1:21s. They work really well.
Best,
Jayne

I’ve never heard of Guyker tuners before. Where did you buy them?

Interesting. They appear to be inexpensive Gotoh 510 copies.

1:21 is a great ratio. I put a Waverly set on my J-45, and I like how precise and durable the tuning is.

A 1:21 gear ratio is nice, but what matters most is how smoothly the gears turn and how well they hold up under extended regular use.

Glad you had good luck with them! I put a set of their black 510-ish ones on my first build and wasn’t overly impressed. Several of the tuners are quite stiff and while they have the look down, the smoothness is a far cry from the Gotoh 510s I’ve used. But considering your review, maybe they deserve another look? Thanks for sharing!

The original clipped top Grover G98's on my 1930 L-5 were 6 to 1 ratio, and they would still be on it if a worm gear loop had not broken.

21 to 1 ratio for the Guykers, eh?

I don't know if I can wait that long....

@silverspear... you have a tuner affixed under the screws? I've never seen that! Is that tuner designed for that?

I finally found this one, maybe this is it... D'Addario NS Micro Clip-Free Tuner Black. It has just one screw hole. I thought yours was affixed with two screws but looking closer, maybe it is just one. Interesting, do you like it?

I put a set of Guyker locking tuners on an inexpensive PRS copy and was blown away at how good they were. They even package them the way Gotoh does. Super value IMO.

just to be clear, as this is something that people frequently mention:

the tuners cannot affect tuning stability. The guitar cant stay in tune or go out of tune because of the tuners.

The worm gear drive is a mechanical device that is impossible to drive in reverse.

Unless it is mechanically broken a tuning machine cant impact tuning stability.

Aside from string breaking or unwrapping, tuning stability is only affected by the slack in the strings or stick-slip at the nut and saddle.

The (by far) most common is sloppy (and too many) wraps on the tuning post.

It *FEELS* like its otherwise making people believe it to their core (just like string "stretch"), but its not actually physically whats happening.

BTW those are very nice looking tuners!

Those look like Gotoh tuners with a different logo. Are they built by Gotoh?

They are Gotoh knock-offs.
