Default Warren Zevon's last CD

If you haven't yet heard "The Wind", please go out of
your way to listen. I had not heard of him until his
death this past Sunday. Reading all the tributes, I immersed
myself in his music and legacy...What a songwriter/storyteller.

If you are over fifty, and/or are facing your own mortality,
I submit this CD will move you; especially given the circumstances
surrounding its creation. Warren Zevon and I were born one day apart. We have both shared the unfortunate curse of cancer.

His final effort was, for him, on target. He said what he needed
to say.
I am grateful that Warren Zevon shared his soul the final months
of his life.

Music is, indeed, the great leveler.

Too bad you didn't get a chance to get into his music while he was still alive; but hey the music lives on. A friend of mine got me into his music back when I was in grad school (~10 yrs ago). He came through town twice while I was there and we saw him do solo shows at small clubs. Pretty cool.

I had heard that the new CD was very good - I was planning on checking it out next time I make it to Best Buy.

As a longtime Warren Zevon fan I'm not sure I want to hear "The Wind." But I'm really glad he got to finish it

I'd recommend "I'll Sleep When I'm Dead" - a double CD compliation that has all the great songs. Another good one is Learning to Flinch which is a live CD. It was this CD that inspired me to get my first 12 string years ago.

I think Warren is somewhere appreciating the great irony of selling more records in the week of his death than in the last 10 or 15 years.

Favorite songs: The French Inhaler, Mr. Bad Example, Detox Mansion, The Vast Indifference of Heaven, Splendid Isolation, Things to do in Denver When Your're Dead, Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner, Desperados Under the Eaves, Mohammad's Radio, Hasten Down the Wind, Carmelita.

I watched the vh1 doc. on him. i was glad to see that he got to be with his newborn grandchildren before he died. its sad to see talented people pass on. michael hedges comes to mind as well. i never listened to much of warren's music but he seemed like a really cool guy.

Its ironic but good that Waren is getting the epiteths and attention he deserves. Although the Wind is a good CD and is getting raves from many quarters, I don't feel its as good as many of his other recent works like"Mutineer, "My Ride's Here, ect. But we take from who gives. For me, Zevon has surpassed Dylan in his latter years. My friends, we have just witnessed a giant passing among men. Those of you who don't know enough about the man give a good hard listen to what makes about 1% of this stuff ART.

God be with you Warren.

Got 'The Wind' today. I like it - didn't realize there were so many guest musicians on the CD, but I guess once news got out of his illness, everybody and their brother wanted in on the action. I think so far my favorite tracks are 3, 4 & 5.

track 3 I think is the cover of 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' - a great song and he does it well.

I haven't learned the names of all the songs yet, but I also really liked the two tracks that came afger 'Knocking...' - I think they can certainly hang with his old stuff.

I wonder if the cover photo was taken after he had taken ill, he doesn't look so good - but then that just may be me. He had lung cancer, right? My dad died of lung cancer and that particular cancer from what I was told likes to met to the head - it did in my father's case and from Warren's eyes on the pic I wonder if it did to him as well.

bummer.

anyway, the album is great, and certainly stands on its own with any of his other albums. His voice is still pretty much the same. I'm not sure how much of this album was recorded after he kniew of his illness? anyone?
