If you really want to hear that J45 at its best amplified, check out the K&K - Tonedexter combination. Nothing compares to it IMHO.

As an aside, this talk of increasing sustain and whatnot with these guitars seems counter productive. My two main guitars are a Martin OM-42 (lots of sustain and rosewood resonance) and a '57 Gibson j45 with the characteristic short sustain and punchy base. I wouldn't change a thing on either of them. I use one for fingerpicking and the other for flat picking.

If you are considering a ToneDexter then the stock Baggs Element will be plenty good enough and have some advantages (it can be plugged into a low impedance input such as most mixer line inputs and the K&K can not).

Going off what Jon wrote above: I would leave the LR Baggs Element Active system in your J-45 and route its output through either a ToneDexter, with your custom-generated WaveMaps, or a Fishman Aura Pedal with J-45 Aura Images downloaded into it. I've had a Gibson J-45 Honeyburst Koa Custom with Element Active that I routed through an Aura pedal with excellent amplified results.

Well nothing, except many other pickups and a Tonedexter. With the Dexter, your pickup is now just a trigger. The Shatten HFN and other SBT's are also great non-obtrusive pickup options with the Tonedexter.

SBT's however are still problematic at higher volumes and other problematic places such as bass traps. That's just the nature of SBT's though.
