I got a Ricoh full spectrum camera a few weeks ago and finally got the IR filter for it. It creates pretty crazy looking black and whites:

It's an interesting beast. I think we're going to get on rather well.
I'm going to keep my eye(s) on this thread. Very interested in your continuing thoughts on the Sigma equipment. I'm going to Europe in the Fall, and I'm looking for just this sort of camera (rather than my whole Sony kit). I'm imagining Venice with that Sigma 30/1.4 lens. But it is like a brick. I understand - I had one of the earlier Merrills and it was a monster!

I went on safari in Kenya recently. This was with an A7R3 and Sony FE 100-400. I'm starting to cull my photos - just figured out how to use "collections" in Lightroom.

Did you update the firmware and use the animal eye AF?

No. I was so upset. I was in Kenya the first two weeks of March. Right before the animal eye af was released. I thought about calling Sony to see if I could get a pre release copy of the firmware and then I thought about how much music on hold I’d have to listen to before I got to speak with the right person.

Here's a few shots (from the race track) with my new Panasonic Lumix FZ80. I just left it on automatic all day, but will be experimenting with settings more as I get the opportunity. Definitely has more features than my old Fuji, which I used to leave on shutter priority for racecar photos. Just noticed there is even a manual focus option (which I used to use for racing shots with my 35mm gear, pre-focusing to where the cars would be when I clicked the shutter).

Think I will need to get a polarizer filter for it.
Interesting thing I found out the other night (after taking indoor photos and not getting the flash to work) - the flash won't fire if the camera is on 'silent' mode!

You wouldn't believe how crowded it is in Europe and how difficult it is to take pictures without people. It's intentional. From my photographer's perspective, photographer's don't want people in photos/artwork that is to be exhibited and enlarged to 40"x60", or so. Tourist snap-shots that are unplanned and taken suddenly have many people in them. I take too many photos with people obscuring vistas. I understand completely though as my daughter shares your thoughts.

Oh, I'd believe it, been a dozen times! I take a lot of street photos myself and am going for interesting shots of people. Again not a criticism, just that as a set the empty bench, boat, and narrow street in particular make for a disconcerting feel. I understand that not having tourists in there is intentional, I wonder if you could be even more intentional creating a series with a unified color or b/w processing approach which played off the interest you're creating with this approach.

As sort of an aside, have you ever seen the work of Fan Ho? The way he included humans in the cityscape was striking and haunting at times.

Really nice photo's. I'm not familiar with Fan Ho.

I'm not sure I'd want to use this combo as a carry-around - it really is a bit of a lump. It weighs a little over 2.5lbs, which is, surprisingly, only about half a pound more than my favourite combo, my Sony a6500 with an 18-105/4 lens. That just melts into my hand - I can carry it all day with just a wrist strap.

I'd be inclined to go with one of the funky DP Quattros for that purpose, but the big drawback for me with those is the lack of an EVF.

Default Encountered a Barbary Sheep

...in Big Bend National Park. Weirdly, I even had my long lens on my camera.
