Factory tour!!!
I'm psyched... a friend/co-worker has a close friend who's a mucky-muck with a certain North American acoustic guitar manufacturer that does NOT provide factory tours -- unless, of course, you have a friend who knows a mucky-muck, who in this case was kind enough to offer a tour. I and a friend or two will get our own tour in a few weeks and I'm pumped. I'm no luthier; just a 30+-year guitar player who is fascinated with them and it'll be interesting to get an up-close view of what goes on there. Maybe I'll even get a free bumper sticker or polishing cloth!... Anyway, sorry; I had to share the joy a little....

Har! Nice try, detective Bern. I'm not going to say, because I wouldn't want anyone to get hounded or in any kind of trouble over this -- not that that's likely to happen. But I am looking forward to it! I bet it'll smell like wood in there....

My wife and I took the Martin Factory tour a couple years ago. Very interesting. Would like to take the Taylor tour someday, just for comparison's sake.
It would also be interesting to tour a Boutique shop. |

Is your location an indication of the tour you took, I understood that Tacoma did not do factory tours.. I tried when I was in Seattle last summer.
Glad you enjoyed it! Michael

I've toured both the Taylor and Martin factory. Very interesting and informative. Unfortunately before entering each factory, my wife took away my credit cards and all my cash except for $20.00. Not so much of an issue at the Taylor Factory so I think she did it there just out of habit!
As far as the tours went, I think I enjoyed the Taylor tour much better in that each person was given a wireless earpiece. Because of this it didn't matter where in the group you stood or how loud the factory was, you could hear the tour guide's explanations etc. Folkman |

Where is/was the factory located?
I moved to the Tacoma area a few years ago. Do you know the location or address of the old Tacoma/Guild factory? I'd love to just drive by and take a picture of it!

Gibson, Martin, Taylor, Collings, PRS all offer factory tours.
Breedlove does not. Am I close?

I’ve heard great things about those mucky-muck guitars. Hope you enjoyed the tour, way back when

Obviously but the person asked about the factory location just today.

So if you do get to the Martin, Taylor, or Gibson , do they have a store with every model and you could try and buy. Or do they make you go to the dealers ?

Taylor's El Cajon, CA factory tour starts in the general merch shop (guitars, shirts, stands, etc) and then ends in a room full of guitars to play. Photo here shows the hallway into that room. All guitars are playable and yes, for sale as well.
