I bought a MMV used for $600 a few years ago. Sold it earlier this year for around $775. Nice guitar.

Eastmans do not sound like Martins to my ears.
An E20D is a heckuva’ guitar though. I had one. I just may own another someday.

My E8D is probably my best guitar. They are phenomenal. They don’t necessarily sound like a Martin, but by no means will you be settling with the Eastman. I say this as someone who has played a lot of D28s and HD28s.

Are you talking about the MSRP of $3599 or the going forum sponsor price of $2160 when you ask for "less the half the cost"?

Did you buy from ebay, reverb or craigslist? Where are the deals? I usually prefer to buy from guitar shops but I pay a couple hundred dollar more.

The DR Centennial is a good guitar...especially for the money but in the long run I doubt it will scratch your Reimagined D-28 itch?

I must have got the deal of the decade. Bought a mint 1993 D28 off CL for 1200 about 4 years ago. In that time shoulder and neck issues forced me into smaller body guitars. Was given 1500 on it 2 years later on a trade in for a 000-18e retro. With 10% sales tax it equated to more like 1650. Been a happy camper all the way. Enjoyed the D28 immensely. If it where me I'd save and wait it out for the real deal and play before u buy as not all of any model is 100% equal. Good luck!

Thanks for advice so far.
I’m going by the UK price £2500 which is $3250. Where can you buy for $2160? Last edited by foxo; 12-20-2019 at 12:12 AM. |

I think I am going to play DR Centennial side by side with D28 today and if it doesn’t compare keep saving. Specs on paper look fantastic though. MMV doesn’t seem to exist in the UK, I think it must be American exclusive.

I owned a MMV and they are decent guitars. They are not nearly as balanced as a D28 because of different bracing. Also, just for you, I'd try a Furch D or RS series guitar. They are incredibly balanced. https://reverb.com/item/28109126-fur...rtificate-more |

The DR Centennial is a quality guitar – essentially a D-28 with a satin finish and VTS top – and a bit of a bargain within the range of Martin guitars in the UK. Whether it satisfies your itch for a D-28 is another matter – after all, it isn't an actual D-28 nor does it have a proper dovetail neck joint, one of the defining characteristics of Martin's Standard series guitars. It might prove a false economy. If you really want a D-28 I think you should wait until you are in a position to buy one.

Good advice from those who suggest saving up for the real thing. A good condition, used D-28 will probably be cheapest in the long run due to it's excellent resale value.
Something most guitar brands lack. |

I wonder if Thomann might have something that would work for you. The shipping charges would be a little less for you and the delivery should be a lot less.

I’ll keep in mind today, not going to buy the centennial unless I like it as much as the D28.
