Default FG180 anyone

Are there any fellow members that have a Yamaha FG180?

Mine is red label made in Taiwan. It sounds great. Very clear tone with nice highs but still a good enough bottom end. Nowhere being too boomy like many dreadnaughts

Yes, I have one hanging on the wall next to my FG230 12 string. Both have bad necks. But when they were younger, yeah great guitars.

Default Yamaha FG180-50TH

For those who never had a Yamaha FG180 but wished they had or still did, Yamaha has introduced a special run of FG180-50TH Anniversary Model all-solid-wood guitars!

The FG180 was Yamaha’s first folk guitar, dating back 50 years to 1966. This model has been developed based on the specs from that year, recreating a modern version by applying Yamaha’s latest technological expertise. More than a mere reissue, the FG180-50TH is a refined model that Yamaha is proud to introduce.

More in-depth information with specs: http://usa.yamaha.com/products/music...nt/?mode=model

Here's a video of Paul Brady singing "Arthur McBride" and playing an original Yamaha FG180 Red Label. This video, with its gorgeous guitar tone, recently got me interested in the Yamaha FG180 Red Label:

Paul Brady's playing of that FG180 sends it home for how much I dig those guitars. A 50th will be coming home soon one day. Thanks for that Brady clip.

I've got one! Red label nippon gaki. It was the guitar I first learned on. Needs a neck reset, so it's strung with super light strings, which make it more playable, but doesn't sound that great so it doesn't get played much.

Proof positive that a laminated guitar doesn't have to sound like wet cardboard - and frankly, I would've preferred an historically-accurate reissue for a couple hundred less...

I recently picked one up a MIJ about a month ago. It's at my guitar tech right now getting some TLC. I should have it back next week.

The guitar has a really balanced tone and projects VERY well.

Here's a pic of my '68 180:

Had one. It was my first acoustic and I probably bought it 1968-69. I *think* it was a Japanese made one and I bought it because I couldn't afford a D-28. I foolishly sold it in 1992 when I was moving out of state. I replaced it in 1995 with an FG461S which I still have and is a nice guitar although there are some issues with the neck now. Not worth fixing and it still plays OK.

Bad necks, or necks in need of a reset? I ask because it's a rare occasion that a Yamaha neck goes, "bad", as in, the trussrod has become nonfunctional, and common for the need of a reset.

(I do Yamaha neck resets)

Jeff did a very nice job of resetting my Rare FG500. Well worth the $$$ spent.

I have seen videos and pics of that model.

Nice acquisition. The highest up on the Yamaha FG food chain I have made it is my FG360

Resets needed. I understand they are a bit tricky to do and do cost a bit. I put the money aside and picked up a used but nearly perfect Alvarez/Yairi DY-71 for 400 bucks/w original case. Much better deal in my opinion. Other than the necks, nothing is wrong with either of them, pick guard, binding, bridge, all intact. Well made.

I've never been so inclined to take guitar building lessons (I don't have the patience nor the temperament), I would like to know how to do my own neck resets. I wouldn't mind investing the time to do that on my own acoustics.
