Some of the tunes mentioned (Amie, Bojangles, Teach your Children, anything by the Beatles) still get a lot of cover time in my area.

I like to play "Never Been to Spain" (Hoyt Axton by way of Three Dog Night), "Sylvia's Mother" (Dr. Hook IIRC), "Ballad of Curtis Lowe" (Skynyrd), almost anything by Marty Robbins, Evangelina (Hoyt Axton again), Gram Parsons "In My Hour of Darkness", "Return of the Grevious Angel", and more. Lots more.

I guess I'm getting a little old but I always think of this one from 1965. I sure do miss being "bullet proof"! The strange thing is it was the biggest seller but never made "number one"!

You beat me to it - after reading the other post that was the first one to come to mind (my favorite GW song)

One of MY favorites to do was Jose Feliciano's Chico and the Man theme.

I used to have fun playing Sammy Johns Chevy Van and making it a trivia song - in all the years I performed it, it always put smiles on faces, but I think about once out of a few hundred did anyone ever guess who sang it.

Dave Loggins Please Come To Boston had a similar effect on the crowd - I got requests for that a lot when people would return.

I also did a cover of Wouldn't Want To Be Like You by Alan Parsons Project that would get some attention.

Allmans Melissa and Van Halen's Ice Cream Man were always well received too.

Hundreds more but those come to mind right now.

Mid-1960s, I lost my mind when I saw Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels play Sock It To Me Baby on TV. Decided that moment that I would be a guitarist.

These are some songs we play that I don't hear much from others

Stones ...Neil Diamond
You Got Lucky ... Blackcherry Smoke version
Cecilia ...S&G
Stuck On You ...Ekolu version
Fly Away.... John Denver
You Don't Mess Around With Jim
I'll Be Back...Beatles

Thanks for posting we are trying to avoid overplayed songs as well and try to play familiar music that gets folks saying....I like that, but haven't heard it in a while.

Merry Christmas
