I have a standard, 1964 model, my 1st electric, bought in 1968 for $400!
Guitar Center included a 1964 Fender deluxe reverb amp too! You could get great deals in those days. Playing the SG is a lot like hugging a wife, or a girlfriend you love. The T-tops died in 2013, replaced with burst buckers. One of the most iconic electric guitars of my era: 60's-70's.

My brother has a late 60's SG. Ever time I play it he says, don't even think about it. And I always say but......but we're family. I guess some things are thicker then blood.
 It is an amazing rock solid guitar, and through a marshal stack it is the "bomb".

My #1 is a Dillion '61 SG with stock neck pup and Duncan 59 in the bridge. Killer setup, and no neck dive! Lol

I played a cherry red SG in a couple of bands back in the mid to late '60s. Back then we called them canoe paddles.
Looked very hard at getting one the past year or so, but ended up with a Taylor T5z.

I lucked into an '82 standard with a side input jack. I never even had an eye on one, until one night at practice our bass player brought it out, after it had been under a bed for ten years. Once I played it I knew it would be mine.

Love my '61 Les Paul Junior. A screaming little guitar that weighs next to nothing and sounds huge. Don't forget your strap button locks! I suggest buying a four pack of Grolsch fliptops and use the red stoppers. You get two sets of strap locks and a decent buzz.

My first electric was an SG. A standard, in what I think is called a burst finish? (or is that exclusively a Fender term?)
I love it for sentimental value but I'm not sure it's my favorite guitar to play. I tend to go either full Tele twang/sprang or full Les Paul thump most of the time
