But in the photo I posted above he looks downright...pretty.

I give up. What band is this?

Fairport Convention, with the incomparable Richard Thompson. If you don’t know him, you should.

It turns out that June Lockhart was a rock and roll mega-fan. She paid The Hourglass to play a party at her home. Tthe top pic shows their visit to the set of her show. In return, when the Allman Brothers made it, they invited the cast backstage at the Whiskey.

That is so cool! Duane is my favorite guitarist of all time, and lost in space is my favorite tv show EVER! I’ve never seen those photos.

Wow, I didn’t recognize him! I guess I’m just used to him with a beard. If Sandy Denny had been in the photo I’d have known who they were. Guess she joined a bit later.

He almost looks too young to be enlisted.

Jimi Hendrix. Great pic! Thinking that most people didn't know he served. He wasn't a model soldier though but he was a paratrooper.

Earlier, and also later. The group in that photo — Dave Swarbrick, Dave Pegg, Simon Nicol, Dave Mattacks, and Thompson — did just one album together, *Full House*. This came right after Sandy Denny left to form Fotheringay. After *Full House* Thompson left in turn to do his solo career. Then Denny came back a few years later for “Rising for the Moon”. (FC’s Wikipedia group timeline looks like a cross between Piet Mondrian and Jackson Pollock.)

Jerry Garcia was in the army for a short stint as well. Talk about not working out! He lasted less than a year and a commanding officer wrote (no photos):

“On 10 November 1960, I personally interviewed Garcia to determine whether he could be persuaded to make an effort to cooperate with me if I gave him another opportunity to prove himself. However, Garcia indicated to me on the 10th of November 1960, that he had no desire to improve himself as a soldier, and that a change of duty assignment or even a change in unit assignment would have would have no bearing on his present defective attitude toward military life, and that he was only interested in getting out of the Army as soon as possible.”

“During my association with the respondent in this unit, I have found Garcia to be unreliable, irresponsible, immature, unwilling to accept authority, and completely lacking in soldierly qualities. … His conduct is unsatisfactory and his efficiency is unsatisfactory. … I predict that if this man remains in the military service … his character and behavior disorders will become more evident and quantitative.”
