Default Guardians Of The Everglades

The Guardians Of The Everglades project is a Florida Everglades conservation effort organized by artists Connie Bransilver and Nicholas Petrucci. I was honored to have my song 'River Of Grass' chosen to be the soundtrack for a video produced by the Guardians project featuring the marvelous photography of Connie Bransilver.

If you'd like more information about The Guardians Of The Everglades project please check out their website at:http://www.guardiansoftheeverglades.com/

River Of Grass

Behold the river of grass, heart of this land
the ancient source of life from mangrove shore to cypress stand
water
water flowing on

A big sky crowns the emerald glade, sawgrass gently sways
tropic breezes give a sigh and whisper promises of rain
water, life giver
water, life’s blood
water, grass river
flowing on

A myriad of life abounds yet some men not satisfied
dredge, dam and drain the land for avarice and foolish pride
water
water flowing on

While eagles soar and sing and panthers stalk their prey
men and cattle spill their waste from Okeechobee to Florida Bay
water, life giver
water, life’s blood
water, grass river
flowing on

How can the need of so many
be destroyed by the greed of so few

Now as the poison oozes down through hammock, creek and slough
it’s our precious wildlife warning us like canaries in the mineshaft do
water
water flowing on

Just wait politicians cry, we’ll find a compromise
for agriculture man and glades but till then which shall we let die
water, life giver
water, life’s blood
water, grass river
flowing on

Excellent, Cat… I really enjoyed that! Good music, nice message and stunningly beautiful photography. I've spent decades birding and enjoying the nature of the South Carolina lowlands, so that topography makes me feel right at home.

Hi Walt,

Very well done! I really enjoyed that! Very cool Reggae beat in there. That was very helpful for you to supply the lyrics.

Thanks very much guys! Everglades conservation is something I've been passionate about for a long time. It's doubly nice having Connie's beautiful photos of the 'Glades associated with my song and the conservation effort.
