Martin 000-28 NB for Standard Scale, Rosewood—SOLD
Greetings All,
I have a 000-28 Norman Blake that fits my hand like a glove (within the top five neck carves for me thus far), and has a lovely tone, but I just can't bond with its short scale. There seems to be more interest in a direct purchase, rather than a trade, So I'm pricing it more competitively. Sale price: SOLD, shipping within the lower 48 included. Here are images: https://imgur.com/a/0BYYDEl For those unfamiliar with this unique Martin model Here's a bit written about it from Martin's website: "In joining a 12 fret neck to a 14-fret 000 body style but with a short 24.9” scale, Blake found a unique combination. Custom tall, wide frets on the black African ebony fingerboard provide a similar feel to the bar frets that Blake prefers along with a smaller 00 sized soundhole to enhance both bass response and dynamic range. The guitar was heralded in the January 2004 issue of The Sounding Board for its “distinctive tone and uncommon playing comfort.” In keeping with his humble nature, Blake preferred not to include his signature on the fingerboard, which had been the standard for guitars in the Signature Collection." The string spacing is 1 13/16" at the nut, and 2 3/8" at the saddle. Overall, it's in great shape. I believe I'm the second owner, and have owned it for about two months. judging by the condition in which I received it, this guitar appears to have lived its life in a case with climate control. The binding is solid. The end graft has shrunk just enough to feel it when you run your fingers over it, but my 2018 0000-18 end graft feels about the same. There are small impressions here and there, most pronounced on the treble side of the lower bout—none that go through the finish, all you have to look for. It appears to me that the saddle is unaltered from the factory. I don't have an action gauge, but I wouldn't want it any lower. There is typical cowboy chord fret wear for a sixteen year old guitar, which I would describe as overall on the lighter side: mostly prominent on the B string 1st fret, but also on the rest of the first three frets of the E and B strings. Nothing that stopped me from buying it—especially as the NB sports unusually tall frets. For those considering a trade: I'm wondering what kinds of under-loved standard scale rosewood guitars someone might be willing to trade or sell to fill its place. I need wider string spacing— 1 13/16 to 1 7/8" at the nut, and 2 5/16 to 2 3/8" at the saddle. I favor traditional designs and shapes, love 12 frets, but happy to consider 14 fretters that meet the aforementioned specs. And I'm inclined to stick to the builders I'm familiar with, including Collings, Bourgeois, SCGC and Martin... a 0002H? An OMS with a custom wider neck? Surprise me. Trade value is SOLD. Thanks!
