Default Shen Jr. or Marshall AS50D

First, thanks for all the great postings I read through before starting this thread...I've tried to assimilate as much as I could, and weed out as I went. But I'm still pretty green wrt acoustic guitar amps.

For my further edification, for playing at home and maybe in small groups or alone at the generic coffee house setting, would I be better off with the Marshall over the Shen Jr.?

Thanks...

I have the SHEN JR! I think it is amazing. 35 watts, so loud and clear. You can adjust the mids in 2 settings, mid and med frquency, the lows, highs, etc. it even has like a dozen built in effects like chorus that sound pretty good too, i even run my mic through the amp as a PA! the tilt back design is neat too. There is a little stand on the back of the amp, and you can chooose if you want to use it or not (whether or not you want to use the tilt back design). Anyway, i love this amp, and i play mine through with a Taylor too. if you have any questions about it, PM me and ill help you out. IMO the marshall isn't close. they make nice electric amps.. their acoustics are below avg IMO

Thanks, Yanks!

I'd be running a mike through the amp, too. Good to know the Shen Jr. handles both. One reason I was looking thataway was a friend has one and was singing its praises.

yeah, the XLR jack thing on the amp lets you hook up mics to it. i plug my mic into it and trust me, the thing is loud. i can't imagine why you wouldn't like this amp. its perfect. just buy it already.

I am PMing you with an offer you won't believe!

The Shen Jr. also has a ground lift switch, pole mount and a direct out jack! You can't go wrong!

I owned a Marshall AS50D.... and I wish I had kept it. My ES Taylor's sounded very nice through that amp (IMO)

FWIW -

A friend of mine has a Marshall acoustic amp and the line-out on it is so noisey, it's pretty much un-usable

I'd go for the Genz-Benz anyday.

Thanks for being so helpful. I tried to buy that Jr. Yanks mentioned, but the guy backed out of it because Paypal shipping wouldn't forward the money until I got the amp and posted feedback. Never heard that one before. Anyway, I found another for only a little more, so I should be in business this week some time.

glad you got the shen jr! its a great amp, and i couldn't be happier with mine. its such a great sounding amp.

the effects are really nice too. i like the delay setting for a little reverb ish sound with a mic, and i use the chrous a lot for the guitar.

the nice thing is you can essentially plug in a mic, and 2 guitars to this amp at once!

the balanced channel for the mic, the unbalanced 1 for guitar 1, and the unbalanced 2 for guitar 2!

when i record songs, i plug in my mic into the unbalcned, witht eh XLR cable, and plug my guitar into the amp aswell. such a great amp. and you got a nice price on it too, according to the PM you sent me. anyway im glad you went with the shenandoah jr!
