Default Using Wood filler by Minwax

I have an old fg180 with a lot of damage in the top, looks like someone had OCD and just kept digging at the grain with a pick. for a month.

I'd like to fill it and level the finish.

Has anyone tried Minwax High Peformance Wood Filler for something like that?

Default Using Wood filler by Minwax

I've used minwax filler for furniture builds and my experience is that it would not turn out as you are expecting for a guitar top. I only use it for paint-grade furniture build that will be covered first by primer then by paint so you won't see it. Although they claim it's stainable, it stains horribly and never looks like it's surrounding wood.

If you want to patch a hole, my suggestion is to cut it into a clean shape and patch it with the same type of wood using titebond. You'll need to put cleats or reinforcements underneath to secure the new joints, or a brace can also be used, depending on it's location.

Please share pictures, I'd love to see this.

Just leave it alone and play it.

IT will indeed look a lot worse then the wear and tear that it is. I agree with Jim just leave it alone.
