Default The veneer has been chosen!!!

Y'all know this ain't an easy feat.

Poor Kevin and Chloe... I've looked at literally ~120 veneers, all different woods, for the past few weeks, and they were all amazing in their own way but juuuuuuust not quite right. I have a blue CF weave X30 and a Padauk X30 -- blue and red -- so I was leaning toward an amber color to polish off the primary triad. I was thinking koa but the supply was light and nothing due in for a while.

But then I looked back at the "show us your veneers!" thread on here and realized that one of my favorites wasn't actually koa but monkeypod, which was such an odd word I didn't even register it as the type of wood. Turns out it is not only a gorgeous tree -- worth a google, and apparently monkeys hide beneath its sumptuous shade and eat its pods -- but has the butterscotch creamy look I really wanted, not found in many of the koa pieces.

So, full of preparation for disappointment, I shot Kevin my 3,948th email. To my surprise, he sent me a few Monkeypod pieces, and to my utter shock and awe one of them cried out "Me! Yes it's me! I'm the one!"

THIS was the experience I'd been waiting for! It's all too easy to peruse a dozen options, not feel the tug, but keep looking at them and convince yourself one is actually pretty cool after all. Nay! I decided to follow my heart this time around and wait until the right one called. And here it is:

Now I'm well aware that veneer selection is just as personal as wristwatch or romantic partner selection, and maybe of y'all won't find this to be The One in your eyes, but I am soooo happy to have found this. My dad was quick to capture it with words:

"Fluid flames. Silky fabric. I think the breeze will move it."

So.... the process begins!

Do I need another Emerald? Absolutely not! But I've found myself steering away from the X30 sometimes just because, comfortable though it is, it's still a large object for lugging around from couch to floor to chair as I perseverate over songs I'm writing. Plus I'd really like to do an X20 vs X30 review video.

Stay tuned! This thread will, like so many, vanish for months and then suddenly re-emerge!

A monkeypod tree:

Looks great. Personal opinion of course, some veneers are better than others - this is a good one! Plus, I'd really like to see that X30 vs X20 video

Very cool. The finish coat will really make that grain pop...

Your Dad kinda captured it eloquently. Very beautiful selection. This is the type of grain I would love to see under matte satin

That is a beautiful veneer! I could really see that one with a satin finish.

Nice choice!

One more vote for considering a satin finish.

Wow - that's serious poetry. Fits the wood look perfectly. Can't wait to see your finished guitar!

Have there been any pictures of guitars done with monkeypod to see what they look like under finish? I don't recall seeing any

Every piece of wood is going to show the grain differently but here's a monkeypod guitar although obviously not an Emerald...
