Would you purchase this guitar with a crack?
I’m getting the guitar half price, never owned one with a crack, not sure if it can/is worth repairing or leaving. It does go through the wood apparently. Thoughts?

Half off is pretty good for just a crack, put some glue in add a cleat and live with it
Bargain

My J-35 is kind of ridiculous, but it is still a good guitar...
A thing they do is arrest the crack with a cleat on the inside... There's a lot of good things about "no crack", but a crack doesn't have to ruin sound or playability... I don't know what kind of guitar that is you're looking at, but there's a lot of good things about 50% off too ... -Mike |

Thanks guys, it’s not a crazy expensive Guitar , it’s a $650 (cad) guild m-240e. I’d be getting it for $300 cad - $230 usd. I just was concerned with overall playability.

In the early 80s, the local music store where I taught banjo lessons had " Yamaha Demo Days". I was thinking of learning guitar and they had a solid topped FG375S "demonstrator" for half price. It sounded gorgeous but had a crack about the same as yours. They had also blacked out the serial # and removed the Yamaha truss rod cover, I assume to void any warranty claims.
I bought the guitar. I knew nothing about repairs. I had read about gluing wood with super glue and baking soda so I dusted a little in the crack and trickled in some super glue, a little 400 grit and some spray Deft laqquer. I still have the guitar, the crack is still holding, it still sounds gorgeous but it now needs a neck reset I'll get at some day. |

I occasionally do warranty repairs for yamaha, when a guitar is damaged when it arrives at the store they are sent a new one under the condition the old one is destroyed, you will find the store you bought it from got a new one to replace it but decided they would risk being allowed to sell yamaha ever again by removing any identifying marks and selling it off cheaply

That's a glue guitar held together with pieces of wood.

Re the original post that crack appears very minor. If you heavily hydrate the guitar it may disappear. If not with a simple inexpensive cleat job it should be just fine, IMHO. - Steve
