Default NGD: Saville SJ

I've finally taken delivery of my Saville small jumbo.

Lutz spruce top:

The top has exceptionally nice silking:

Lightly figured Honduran mahogany back and sides:

This picture shows off the Schertler tuning machines:

Steve says this is the loudest guitar he's ever built. It handles strumming very well, yet is responsive enough when played without a pick. It's equipped with a Pick-Up The World (PUTW) SSP, a dual-source system which combines an undersaddle pickup with two soundboard transducers.

The build itself is documented here. Many thanks to Steve for delivering a guitar that's a delight to the ears, eyes and hands. My fellow Saville owners know what I mean!

Thanks for the kind words. I took the photos here at home. Awhile back I read user "Kitchen Guitars"' guide to photographing guitars; I tried to apply some of his tips to avoid obvious reflections. That's why there are no straight-on shots.

Great results. If you don't mind me asking what kind of lighting did you use?

I use a semi-pro light and by angling that I can get straight on shots, but I also have a table and back and both side walls covered in black cloth.

Is it weird my favourite part is the neck? Just great colour & grain.

There were three factors in the lighting:
  1. The nearest star, shining through a south-facing window in the mid-afternoon.
  2. The flash on my Nikon D5100 (except for the first two shots).
  3. Picasa's "I'm Feeling Lucky" button. I guess it worked!

That is one of the most striking pieces of mahogany I've ever seen! Love the story that goes along with it as well.

Great looking instrument; and lutz / mahogany is a fantastic pairing.
